Matching your Hair Colour to your Skin Tone with Nice ‘n Easy

Want to change up your look, but have no idea where to start? With Clairol Nice ‘n Easy you can easily and conveniently brighten up your natural hair colour (and hide those greys) or go for something completely new.

It’s not always that easy to decide on a new look though…

I received Nice ‘n Easy’s Guide to Matching your Hair Colour to your Skin Tone this morning and I thought it a good idea to share their tips with you.

Whether we have sun-kissed olive skin with brown eyes, or we’re blue-eyed with a peachy glow, the colour we select for our tresses can really make or break our look. And while opting to colour our own hair certainly proves to be a more affordable and accessible choice, it can be difficult to select the right shade that will keep us looking our glamorous best.

Colour Guide

Catwalks around the world boast some of today’s most beautiful shades, but how do we decide what works for us? “Knowing where to start is really half the battle won,” explains Sarah Reit, Aussie’s Brand Manager. “If you’re in the mood for a fresh new look, it’s important to consider the current shade of your hair. From that point experts agree that to ensure undyed locks look luscious, hair should be coloured either two shades lighter or darker.  For hair that has already seen some colour action, two shades darker or only one shade lighter than its current colour is the general rule of thumb.”

Set the Tone

Sarah Reit goes on to add that identifying whether our complexion is warm or cool toned also plays an important role in the ultimate colour we should be selecting for our hair. “It’s important to remember that warm toned people look better in warm tones which are based in the golds and coppers of the colour wheel. If you look better in peach than pink and favour gold over silver jewellery, then chances are that you’re a warm-toned person.”

While warm toned people feature a variety of skin tone and eye colour combinations, from golden-brown hair with fair skin and hazel hair to golden blonde hair with fair peachy skin and blue eyes, it makes sense that warm hair colours suit them best. “If you think you fit this description then consider selecting a shade for your tresses that features a red or gold undertone,” adds Reit.

Shades from the blue and violet colour family, on the other hand, suit cooler toned people best. “If you have dark or blonde hair with fair skin or blue eyes, or alternatively very dark skin and hair with rich brown eyes then you are more than likely a cool toned person. Hair colours such as ‘ash’, ‘platinum’ or ‘champagne’ will point you in the right direction in terms of which shades will suit you best,” explains Sarah Reit .

“Whether you’re warm or cool toned, Nice ‘n Easy can be applied effortlessly resulting in layers of rich tones and contouring highlights for natural looking hair colour. Each shade comes with its own unique built in tones including bright coppers, vibrant reds, blondes, as well as bold browns. With Nice ‘n Easy you can step into another dimension of colour and complete grey coverage,” says Reit.
