My Summer Saviour: Bioderma Photoderm MAX SPF50+ Aquafluide

It’s hot. Damn, Cape Town. Enough now. This summer, more than ever before, I’ve made sure never to go in the sun without wearing a good sunscreen. I have been wearing Photoderm Max Aquafluide SPF 50+ a lot. What makes it special? Bioderma Photoderm offers very high sun protection that is suitable for all skin types, including oily and sensitive. The emulsion has an ultra-light texture and a dry touch finish. The “oil free” emulsion is optimised by a complex consisting of 3 powders with matifying properties, and concealing agents for a matt and powdery finish. Cellular Bioprotection® preserves the skin’s immunity, cellular integrity and combats the premature ageing of the skin. Photoderm is also hypoallergenic, non comedogenic, fragrance free, paraben free and water resistant. Aquafluide comes in 3 variants – not tinted, light tint and golden tint. I’m using both the clear and lightly tinted versions.  Both have saved my skin many times over the holidays and it continues to do so. We’re going away this weekend and we will be spending most of it outside by the pool. Photoderm is top of my list of what to pack. I wear the tinted one instead of foundation on days that I don’t want to wear a full face of make-up, but also don’t want to go bare. The coverage is not bad at all, and if set with powder it lasts well. The product itself is very light and it spreads easily. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling suffocated at all. Photoderm really does have a matte finish and I highly recommend you give it a try if you struggle with oily skin. I find that...

And the winner is… Bianca Balutto! Congratulations. I’ll contact you shortly x Summer is here! Finally. And I hope you are wearing sun protection every day? Let’s get to the good part. Juliette Armand has kindly sponsored one of their fabulous SunFilm products to give away. Why do you want to win this? Eucerin Sensitive Skin Saviours

Eucerin is a brand that I know quite well and I adore their cleansers and one of my favourite toners is by this brand. And let’s not forget about the Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm. I think I have 3 tubes floating around at the moment. Moms, this balm is a must have!  I was recently sent a press pack containing 4 products that I was very excited to try. I was especially keen on the sunscreen as I followed the launch on Twitter and Instagram and it sounded perfect for my sensitive, oily skin. The Eucerin Sun Gel-Creme Oil Control Dry Touch Face SPF50+ (holy crap that’s a mouthful) claims to offer superior photoprotection and an anti-shine effect for oily and acne-prone skin. Now we all know why we should wear sunscreen, so I don’t have to go on about that. This product also contains loads of difficult to pronounce ingredients that offers cellular and DNA protection and oil regulation. That sounds awesome, but I’m sure you are here to hear if it works or not. YES! We went to a braai on the most recent public holiday and it was a beautifully warm and sunny day. I knew we were going to sit outside and savour every warm ray, so it was the perfect day to test it out. After about 10 minutes in the sun, I asked the hostess for some sunscreen as I could feel my shoulders were going to go lobster if I didn’t do something. My face was obviously still feeling great. That night I saw feint tan lines on my shoulders and the...

BABOR Anti-Aging Sun Care Sun Spray Lotion SPF15

I received the BABOR Anti-Aging Sun Care Sun Spray Lotion SPF15 a couple of weeks ago at a lovely event and put it away in a drawer. I was saving it for summer. See, I don’t do sunscreen very well. I have discovered great ones over the years, but I still struggle to apply it every single day. Most sunscreens feel so heavy on my skin. On days that I know I’ll be out in the sun, I will most definitely make sure that my skin is protected. On other days, not so much. Two weeks ago I went for a facial peel and I am currently testing an anti-pigmentation product, and I knew that I better make sure to protect my skin as it is extra sensitive to the damaging rays at the moment. The BABOR Sun Spray Lotion was the first one I reached for the day after the peel. BABOR, you make me happy. This product is care and luxury at its best. The BABOR Anti-Aging Sun Care Sun Spray Lotion SPF15 is pure gold. It is super light and moisturising and it creates a perfectly smooth base for my foundation. As a bonus, it not only protects your skin, it is also anti-aging. ‘The anti-aging complex additionally protects cellular DNA and contains the potent radical quenchers vitamin E and vitamin C encapsulated in an intelligent spherical carrier. This becomes porous when exposed to UV rays, and activates the vitamins. At the same time, an extract of cassia didimobotrya wraps itself around the cell like a protective mantle.’ This beauty retails at R490 for a super convenient 200ml...

Bioderma KID SPF 50+ Review

Cara’s eczema-prone skin is extremely sensitive and I have to be wary of the sun creams that I apply. We tried out the Bioderma KID SPF 50+ Milk over the holidays and we love it. It is non-greasy and it does not irritate her skin at all. It was her 4th birthday party over the weekend and we had a pool party. My mom made sure that all the kids were protected and the KID SPF 50+ Milk was really put to the test (we actually finished the tube). The kids spent the whole day in the hot sun and in the water and none of them complained of itchy skin or burny eyes, and no one was sun burnt. This is a brilliant sun protection cream and we highly recommend it! RRP249.95. xoxo   *Disclaimer: This product was sent to me for review purposes. I have not received compensation for this post and the opinions on the product are my...

2014: The Year of Oils

I have always been quite fond of beauty oils, but they have never really formed a big part of my beauty regimen. Last year changed that. 2014 saw amazing skin and hair oil launches and I also had the opportunity to try products that have been around for a while. I have fallen in love with so many oils that it is quite difficult to choose a clear favourite in each category so I decided to give you a round up of products that I highly recommend you give a try.   FACE In the past I have been weary of facial oils as I was always worried that they would cause more oiliness and congestion, but I quickly learnt that it is not the case. Facial oils work wonders for my skin especially during the winter months as my skin can become very dull and even flaky. Change of season is particularly harsh on my skin and oils have proved to be lifesavers. Winners include Lipidol Overnight Face Oil, L’Oreal’s Age Perfect Extraordinary Oil and Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse (and yes… this oil is as good as they say). An oil that deserves a very special mention is Naturals Beauty’s Sweet Orange Wrinkle Banisher. This oil takes top spot on days that my skin is very sensitive. It is amazing and I will be making sure that I have enough of this beaut in my stash when winter comes a knockin’. This is most definitely one of my best beauty buys of 2014. I also tried a couple oil cleansers and two really stood out: Dermalogica’s PreCleanse and Lipidol’s Cleansing Face Oil....
