Avène Cicalfate Hand Cream gets 10/10!

I love a good hand cream and Avène Cicalfate Hand Repairing Barrier Cream may just be the best I’ve ever used. Avène Cicalfate Hand Cream gets 10/10 This is what Avène has to say about their new hand cream that’s been available at Clicks and Dis-Chem since end of May: Avène Cicalfate HAND repairs, soothes and protects very dry, irritated and chapped hands with faster action. Fragrance-free, paraben-free. REPAIRING – Sucralfate, an original ingredient, facilitates epidermal repair. PURIFYING – The combination of copper sulfate and zinc sulfate reduces the risk of bacterial proliferation. SOOTHING – Rich in Avène Thermal Spring Water, it soothes fragile skin. Its rich, nourishing texture spreads easily. Rapidly absorbed, transparent when applied, it forms an insulating barrier on the skin for “second skin” protection. The skin on my hands is very (very!) sensitive and because I suffer from eczema, I have to be careful when I choose a hand cream. My hands are also EXTREMELY dry. Avène is a brand that I trust when it comes to my eczema-prone skin, so when I heard about the new Avène Cicalfate Hand Repairing Barrier Cream, I couldn’t wait to put it to the test. The moment I put it on my hands, I knew I loved it. It was thick and creamy and my skin felt soothed. It was like it sighed with relief. But whilst I was rubbing it in, I knew that this was a night cream. There was no way that it would work during the day, it was just too thick… BUT WAIT! Not even a minute later it was all absorbed. No oiliness or stickiness. My...

Skin treats from Healing Earth

The lovely people from the premium African spa brand, Healing Earth, sent me a few of their products to try and now I understand why this brand is loved by so many. The brainchild of spa veteran Elisabeth Brandt, Healing Earth is a premium African spa brand that offers natural, organic products, therapies and spa concepts to discerning clients the world over. Each lovingly created Healing Earth product harnesses the restorative powers of Africa’s rich natural resources and is made from only the purest natural active ingredients sourced from the continent’s powerful minerals, oceans, flowers, herbs, fruit, seeds and natural oils. Our products are divided into families that aim to address specific skincare needs: Kalahari Melon for hydration, Marula for softening and relaxing, African Ginger for slimming, Pinotage for its strong antioxidant qualities, African Potato for healing and repairing, and Mongongo Nut for detoxifying. Skin treats from Healing Earth Healing Earth African Ginger Corrective Cream This firming body cream is a treat. It contains ginger to tone and brighten the skin. Extracts of fennel, black pepper and cypress also aid in toning and firming. This cream, as with all Healing Earth creams, is free of parabens, preservatives and mineral oils, and no artificial fragrances or colours have been added. It smells lovely, is very moisturising and soothing and it does not irritate my sensitive skin. Healing Earth Pinotage Facial Polish Can we just first chat about how stunning this product looks?! I love the packaging. This facial scrub is made from real Pinotage grapes that are said to improve skin’s elasticity. Unfortunately, I don’t use physical exfoliators on my face as my skin is way too sensitive (especially during winter). I’ve also been told that...

I had my eyebrows microbladed!

Microblading has been the buzzword over the last couple of years and when the kind people at Skin and Body Renewal asked me if I wanted to try it out, my answer was HELL YEAH! Microblading Microblading is an eyebrow enhancing procedure where tiny scratches are made in the skin using a manual handheld tool that implants permanent makeup pigments into the upper layers of the skin. The aim is to create hair-like strokes that mimic natural hairs to give you fuller-looking brows and/or alter the shape of your brows. I only learned exactly how microblading is done a day before my procedure. That tells you a lot about the faith I have in Skin and Body Renewal, hey? From my experience, all Skin and Body Renewal staff and therapists are highly trained and skilled, so I wasn’t very stressed. But I strongly advise that you do not make the decision to have your brows done without doing your research. It is still a tattoo. On your face!! And it’s permanent. You want to make a 100% sure that the person you entrust with your brows, knows what they are doing. I’ve seen a few Youtube videos where people DIY this procedure at home… rather save your money and have it done by a professional. I beg you! Today I want to answer a few questions you may have and also show you my before and after pics that were taken on the day of my first procedure. My touch-up is scheduled for 12 August and after that’s healed completely, I will do another post with pics. I had my eyebrows microbladed! On...

Treats from Matsimela Home Spa

Earlier this year I had a glorious full body massage when we visited Aquila Private Game Reserve’s new Tranquila Spa. The therapist used the most divine smelling massage medium and I just had to know what it was. I was very surprised to hear that it was a body butter. Body butters don’t usually make the best massage medium, in my experience, but this one, oh my! Delicious. And who makes this lil’ pot of gold? MatsiMela. Treats from MatsiMela Home Spa Who is is MatsiMela? ‘Matsimela is an indigenous word meaning “roots” and originates from the African language, Sotho. We are returning to our roots in all that we do to enrich you with our African heritage. The MatsiMela Home Spa range of products is constantly growing and developing with the ethos of caring for yourself and the environment. SVR Dermatological Skincare now available in SA!

Whenever I get an offer to try skincare products, especially when it’s a brand that’s new to our shores, I grab the opportunity with both hands. I love skincare products and I love looking after my skin. I have been trying out a few products by world-renowned French brand SVR over the past 2 months and I am impressed.   SVR was developed in 1962 by a French pharmacist couple and their key aim was to create ‘beautiful skin’.  Today, SVR is prescribed by dermatologists in over 45 countries and has proved itself to be a star in the field of dermo-cosmetics. SVR is now available in South Africa and you will find this amazing brand at Clicks stores as well as at select salons and doctors. I have been using a few SVR products over the past couple of months and here are my thoughts: Sensifine FLUIDE Sensifine FLUIDE moisturizes, soothes and reduces skin reactivity of the most intolerant skin. SVR takes care of sensitive skin and innovates with this gentle care specially formulated for skin intolerant to poly-allergic, without surfactant, silicone or minéral oil. Its fluid and soft texture, mild, non-greasy touch, absorbs instantly to hydrate normal to combination skin. Inspired by the medical field and developed with a dermatologist-allergist, Sensifine is the new and complete range uncompromising reactive skin intolerant poly-allergenic. I started using Sensifine Fluide just as my skin started to feel the effects of change of season. Think blotchy, scaly, red, irritated skin. Sensifine Fluide was such a treat to use as it was extremely soothing. It left my skin feeling (and looking) comfortable and...
