Short hair, do(n’t) care? Plus a hair loss update.

Two weeks ago I gave my husband the scissors and I told him to cut. I knew that if it wasn’t done immediately, I wouldn’t have the guts and I would drag it out for even longer than I already have. My husband took 3 huge gulps of red wine and started cutting … Short hair, do(n’t) care? Plus a hair loss update. If you’re not familiar with my extreme hair loss story, this is it in a nutshell: stress and trauma caused me to lose about two thirds of my hair. The hair that was left became dry and brittle and it seemed like I was losing my natural curl. A huge shock also caused my hair to weaken at the root and once my hair reached a certain length, it broke off. For the last 6 months or so I have been trying my best to hide the hair loss by tying my hair up in the most pathetic little ponytail you can imagine. I couldn’t wear my hair loose as I was sporting a super fabulous 80’s style mullet. The only long hair left on my head was on the bottom half of my head. Thankfully my hair started to grow again!! My hair is full and healthy and my curls are back with a vengeance. Thank you Trichotin!! Find my introduction to Trichotin over HERE. But that pony looked horrible. The dead hair had to go. I was extremely calm that Tuesday evening when I gave my husband the scissors. I sat at the kitchen counter and gave him instructions to cut everything the same length. My hair...

Essence me & my umbrella trend edition

Autumn is here and, as usual, the latest Essence trend edition does not disappoint. Essence me & my umbrella trend edition A couple of weeks ago Essence sent me a couple of items from their autumn trend addition ‘me & my umbrella’. The first thing that always gets me excited about their trend editions, is the gorgeous packaging. The details are always so perfect. And the make-up? Still the best budget buys around. The collection includes 4 nail polishes. I received rosewood and dark red. The polishes have a semi-matt, gummy finish that gives a ‘rain boots’ effect. These retail for R45. The product that I was most keen to try is the eyebrow thickener. The eyebrow powder has an innovative sponge applicator to help give you perfectly defined brows. When you get the application technique just right, this product gets your brows looking perfect in no time. It comes in 2 shades; blonde and brunette and retails for R55. The lipstick is my favourite. I love the look of matte lipsticks, but they usually just make my lips look dried out. This one does not! It’s gorgeous. And the dark red shade is perfect for the colder months. The lipstick retails for R50. Also be on the lookout for the luscious rosewood shade. The range includes 2 matte eye shadows and I have been really enjoying the grey. The shadow is velvety and applies beautifully. Shadows retail for R45. I am a huge fan of Essence make-up brushes. They are budget friendly and always super soft. The range includes a gorgeous contouring brush and at only R65, it’s a steal. The Essence me & my umbrella...

Trust in the Care from NIVEA and help uplift a community

Care is at the heart of the NIVEA brand, and when I received news of the amazing work they are doing at the Thanda Centre in KwaZulu-Natal, I had to share. “Our consumers enjoy giving themselves the best care, but we know that they also love to show care and give back to others, although they often don’t have the time or resources to do so. Through this initiative, consumers can make a life-changing difference every time they purchase their favourite NIVEA product,” says Shayna Amaidas, NIVEA brand manager, Beiersdorf. “Each purchase enables us to support the Thanda Centre, which has become a beacon of hope and source of pride in the community of Umtwalume.” For the last 2,5 years NIVEA South Africa has supported a community situated in Umtwalume, KwaZulu-Natal, through financial support of Thanda, a non-profit organisation. The Thanda Centre provides valuable support for the local community through an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre and after-school programmes. Research shows that 90% of brain development happens before the age of five, which is why ECD programmes are vital, yet less than 16% of children in KwaZulu-Natal have access to these. At the Thanda Centre, children not only receive a hot meal and participate in educational and stimulating programmes, but also find a safe place to play. The centre hosts the only library and playground in the area, with its number one drawcard – the skate park! NIVEA’s impact at the Thanda Centre has already been significant: Amongst other milestones, 73 347 meals were served to children in 2016 and the centre can remain consistently open 7 days per...

Review: Inoar Vegan Shampoo & Conditioner

Inoar recently announced their first ever vegan range and I haven’t seen a brand this excited or passionate about a product in a long time. I am excited with them about Inoar Vegan. What they say: One of the best things about this line is what it doesn’t contain. One of Inoar’s main philosophies is respect for life. All of our products undergo testing, but never on animals. The Vegan line has no ingredients of animal origin and was created to celebrate this attitude, to remember that you can – and should – choose cosmetics that maintain a respectful relationship with nature and animals. Products in the Inoar Vegan line are formulated using vegetable oils, such as coconut and olive oil, that penetrate deep into the hair fibres, caring for your hair with maximum performance. What we say: Firstly, well done Inoar! Cruelty-free for the win. The first thing you notice about the range is the fabulous coconut scent. When I cracked to seal of the shampoo, I wanted to reach for a spoon. It smells like coconut heaven. The real stuff. The shampoo and conditioner is packed with Coconut oil, Olive oil, Macadamia oil, Argan oil and Wheat Germ oil and is suitable for all types of hair. The nasties-free shampoo foams well (considering) and it leaves our hair feeling clean and soft. When it comes to shampoos and conditioners, I always test on Cara’s hair as well, hence the ‘our’. At first, the shampoo left my hair feeling a bit dried out, but after my hair loss my hair was extremely damaged and I may have over did it with the...

The creams are extremely moisturising but do not leave my skin feeling (or looking) oily.   The beauty fluid is light and absorbs instantly. The rosy pigments in the beauty fluid and the rosy day cream give the skin a brighter and rosier appearance....
