Short hair, do(n’t) care? Plus a hair loss update.

Two weeks ago I gave my husband the scissors and I told him to cut. I knew that if it wasn’t done immediately, I wouldn’t have the guts and I would drag it out for even longer than I already have. My husband took 3 huge gulps of red wine and started cutting … Short hair, do(n’t) care? Plus a hair loss update. If you’re not familiar with my extreme hair loss story, this is it in a nutshell: stress and trauma caused me to lose about two thirds of my hair. The hair that was left became dry and brittle and it seemed like I was losing my natural curl. A huge shock also caused my hair to weaken at the root and once my hair reached a certain length, it broke off. For the last 6 months or so I have been trying my best to hide the hair loss by tying my hair up in the most pathetic little ponytail you can imagine. I couldn’t wear my hair loose as I was sporting a super fabulous 80’s style mullet. The only long hair left on my head was on the bottom half of my head. Thankfully my hair started to grow again!! My hair is full and healthy and my curls are back with a vengeance. Thank you Trichotin!! Find my introduction to Trichotin over HERE. But that pony looked horrible. The dead hair had to go. I was extremely calm that Tuesday evening when I gave my husband the scissors. I sat at the kitchen counter and gave him instructions to cut everything the same length. My hair...

Trichotin Hair Regenesis Review & Hair Loss Update

I told you about my extreme hair loss in Feb and I promised you an update, well… MY HAIR IS GROWING!! I’m actually scared to say those words out load because I don’t want to jinx it. Losing your hair is pretty damn devastating. I can’t even imagine how ladies who lose all their hair must feel! From my previous post you will know that I take a hand full of supplements every day. I never used to believe in supplements. I would religiously take supplements for a couple of months and then give up as I felt that it didn’t make a difference to my health. This experience has changed my mind completely. Pop those vitamins people! What has happened since my extreme hair loss post? My hair has stopped falling out! Or at least it’s back to how it used to be and only a ‘normal’ amount is left in the shower after a wash and detangle. My hair is still breaking, but it seems that it is only the long hair that’s breaking off. They are basically just catching up with the rest. The way the GP explained it to me: when I went through an extremely traumatic experience last year, my hair probably weakened at the root and with time, my hair started to break off at that point. That is also why the long hair that I have left, is dry and brittle at the ends. Why not just cut it all off you ask? Hell no! I have curly hair and short does not suit me. I would love to get rid of...

Please take care of your heart! #HugYourHeart

We have experienced a few health scares in our family over the past year and two big ones were heart related. My Gran is currently in the heart unit in hospital. I am not a fan of copy-and-paste blog posts, but I received this press release a couple of minutes ago and I had to share it immediately. Please take care of your heart… SOUTH AFRICANS’ RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR HEARTS ‘ON THE ROCKS’ A just-released survey, which was conducted by SA’s leading cardiovascular medicine provider to determine how heart-aware South Africans are in the lead up to Valentine’s Day, revealed that nearly a quarter described their relationship with their hearts as ‘on the rocks’. The public poll forms part of Pharma Dynamics’ Hug your Heart campaign, which it has launched this February in partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation SA (HSFSA), in an effort to create greater awareness about heart disease in South Africa – a condition which claims the second most lives, after HIV/AIDS, in the country. Of the 2 000 respondents that participated in the poll, almost half (46%) pleaded guilty to activities that put them at risk of heart disease, which includes smoking and drinking too much alcohol, overeating, consuming too much salty, sugary and greasy foods, whilst also living a sedentary lifestyle. Nicole Jennings, spokesperson for Pharma Dynamics says the findings are telling of the nation’s trivial attitude toward heart-health. “Unfortunately, it usually takes someone we know to have a heart attack or stroke before we take our own heart-health seriously. The reality is that 215 South Africans die every day from heart disease or...

The Slender Challenge: 6 week weigh-in

I hit the half way mark of the Slender Challenge and it’s been tough. This challenge is not easy. Well, has losing weight ever been easy?! I’ve had my fair share of cravings and temptations and it’s been hard, but I have stuck to the plan (as best I could at times) and I am so happy with my results. I had my 6 week weigh-in on Friday, and… 14 kgs down in 6 weeks!! Can you believe it?! I sometimes can’t. It’s been hard work, and I still have at least 10 kgs to go, but I feel great. And I don’t look too bad either, if I do say so myself. I had to go jeans shopping this morning as my current pairs look horrible om me. 6 weeks ago they were too snug and extremely uncomfortable. Now they are almost falling off! I want to thank Body Renewal for the Slender Challenge and for the chance to change my life. This time WILL be the last time! Here’s a quick recap of the program I’m following: Body Renewal Weight Loss Program It is a medical weight loss program which specifically targets abnormal and resistant fat, which results in slimming and shaping of the body. A highly professional team lead by a medical doctor assesses every patient. In this consultation your medical history will be evaluated. The doctor will then decide whether any blood tests are necessary. A team of registered nurses supports each patient in their weight loss journey to ensure the best results are obtained. The program is based on improving sensitivity to Leptin and has four components: a low GI diet Weight loss supplements / nutraceuticals in the form of capsules and powder, a daily meal replacement with a low GI health shake Daily injections of a lipotropic substance (HCG) that targets and releases abnormal fat in the body. If the program is strictly adhered to patients lose between...
