Microblading: Is it worth it?

My eyebrows are all healed after my microblading touch-up and the final verdict is in… Microblading: Is it worth it? Is getting your eyebrows microbladed worth the time, discomfort and money? YES!! I absolutely love my brows. If you haven’t read my post on the first procedure, you can read it HERE. If you want to know exactly what microblading is, how it feels and how to care for your brows after the procedure, I suggest you pop over. Today I want to show you my final result and I want to tell you what you can expect after your touch-up. This is my before and after on the day of the 2nd procedure: Awesome, isn’t it?! The touch-up was done in August ’17. My brows are now all healed and this is my final result: Ugh, behold the pigmentation spots, huge pores and wrinkles in all their glory. But let’s focus on the brows. My brows have faded quite a bit. I knew it was going to fade, but it faded more than I hoped it would. Keep in mind that I love dark brows. And then there is this stubborn stroke that just did not want to stay put. I was a bit disappointed, but then I remembered that I have the same issue on my wrist tattoo (this tiny little spot where the ink did not want to take). Why? Ask my skin ;) The reason why I’m sharing this with you, is because I want to help manage your expectations. Your brows will fade (to the relief of some who get a huge fright straight after...

Revlon Mega Multiplier Mascara – You want this!

Most of us have a holy grail mascara. I used to. My all time favourite was a tube mascara by a Japanese cosmetics company, but I stopped using it as it became way too expensive. I was devastated. I have used many mascaras over the years and I love many, but none ever came close to ‘the one’. Until I discovered the new Revlon Mega Multiplier Mascara. Revlon Mega Multiplier Mascara – You want this! This is what Revlon has to say: Desire oversized lashes and multiplied benefits? Introducing Revlon Mega Multiplier Mascara, our breakthrough formula combines buildable fibers and 360º tubes to deliver mega volume and extreme length for an oversized lash look that won’t smudge or smear! Revlon’s unique approach combines fibers and 360º tubes in one step for plumped and extended lashes that get noticed. TUBE TECHNOLOGY Unlike traditional mascaras, Revlon’s tubing mascara features a polyurethane copolymer base with the benefits of waterproof mascara without the tough removal, as it removes easily with warm water. Upon application, the copolymer binds creating an adhesive encasement around each lash (also known as a “360º tube”) that won’t wear off or flake. FIBER FORMULA Fiber formula provides additional volume and length, and when combined with tube technology, lush lashes are instantly flake-free and smudge-proof in one step. Revlon takes Mega Multiplier Mascara one step further by using two uniquely shaped microfibers, triangular and heart, for a formula that gives you an oversized lash look with both volume and length. When I received the press release about Revlon’s new mascara, I freaked when I read the word ‘tube’. I immediately phoned...

I had my eyebrows microbladed!

Microblading has been the buzzword over the last couple of years and when the kind people at Skin and Body Renewal asked me if I wanted to try it out, my answer was HELL YEAH! Microblading Microblading is an eyebrow enhancing procedure where tiny scratches are made in the skin using a manual handheld tool that implants permanent makeup pigments into the upper layers of the skin. The aim is to create hair-like strokes that mimic natural hairs to give you fuller-looking brows and/or alter the shape of your brows. I only learned exactly how microblading is done a day before my procedure. That tells you a lot about the faith I have in Skin and Body Renewal, hey? From my experience, all Skin and Body Renewal staff and therapists are highly trained and skilled, so I wasn’t very stressed. But I strongly advise that you do not make the decision to have your brows done without doing your research. It is still a tattoo. On your face!! And it’s permanent. You want to make a 100% sure that the person you entrust with your brows, knows what they are doing. I’ve seen a few Youtube videos where people DIY this procedure at home… rather save your money and have it done by a professional. I beg you! Today I want to answer a few questions you may have and also show you my before and after pics that were taken on the day of my first procedure. My touch-up is scheduled for 12 August and after that’s healed completely, I will do another post with pics. I had my eyebrows microbladed! On...

Essence me & my umbrella trend edition

Autumn is here and, as usual, the latest Essence trend edition does not disappoint. Essence me & my umbrella trend edition A couple of weeks ago Essence sent me a couple of items from their autumn trend addition ‘me & my umbrella’. The first thing that always gets me excited about their trend editions, is the gorgeous packaging. The details are always so perfect. And the make-up? Still the best budget buys around. The collection includes 4 nail polishes. I received rosewood and dark red. The polishes have a semi-matt, gummy finish that gives a ‘rain boots’ effect. These retail for R45. The product that I was most keen to try is the eyebrow thickener. The eyebrow powder has an innovative sponge applicator to help give you perfectly defined brows. When you get the application technique just right, this product gets your brows looking perfect in no time. It comes in 2 shades; blonde and brunette and retails for R55. The lipstick is my favourite. I love the look of matte lipsticks, but they usually just make my lips look dried out. This one does not! It’s gorgeous. And the dark red shade is perfect for the colder months. The lipstick retails for R50. Also be on the lookout for the luscious rosewood shade. The range includes 2 matte eye shadows and I have been really enjoying the grey. The shadow is velvety and applies beautifully. Shadows retail for R45. I am a huge fan of Essence make-up brushes. They are budget friendly and always super soft. The range includes a gorgeous contouring brush and at only R65, it’s a steal. The Essence me & my umbrella...

Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer review

I was really in two minds about posting this review. I prefer to only post about products that I really like and that I would spend my own money on. I am still not sure if I would fork out R850 for this, but stick around and you can decide for yourself. Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer Review Let’s start off with what they say: Lightweight, non-greasy primer minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, mattifies against oily shine and imparts a silky, luminous finish to skin. H2ORelease™ Complex and Abyssinian Oil help provide intense, sustained-release moisturization that locks in optimum hydration levels. A microencapsulated tint releases upon application to provide neutral coverage while Whu-Zhu-Yu Fruit Extract enhances skin radiance. Naturally-astringent Mushroom Extract reduces pore size and appearance. Formulated without artificial fragrances, colors or parabens. I received this primer shortly after it launched and I have to say, I was totally underwhelmed after the first use. It felt great on my skin, yes, BUT R850?! It did a good job blurring fine lines and making my pores look a little less huge, but I really didn’t think it was worth that price tag. It also didn’t mattify as much as I hoped. This was in March of this year while we still had lovely warm weather. And my skin could be classified as combination to oily. Then winter arrived with one moerse bang and my skin didn’t know what hit it. All of the sudden my face was tight, dry, sensitive, scaly and blotchy. Not a pretty sight. (Keep an eye out as the products that saved my skin will be...

Lancôme Juicy Shakers

Prepare to fall in love! Lancôme has recently introduced the much anticipated Juicy Shakers and I am head over heels for these little cocktail shakers. So what exactly are these tubes of juicy goodness?! Lancôme has combined nourishing lip oils with beautiful colour pigment to create a gloss that glides on to your lips, leaving them looking and feeling luscious. The formula is not sticky at all. No, really. I know many glosses claim to be, but this one really isn’t. It feels light and silky on your lips and it’s quite addictive. The colour payoff is sheer, but a lot better than I expected it to be and the shine is simply gorgeous. The tube is in the shape of a mini cocktail shaker emulating the Shaker that Lancôme created in 1946. You have to give the tube a good shake in order for the oil and pigment to combine, and then you apply it to your lips using the unique cushion applicator. Everything about this product spells fun; the vibrant shades, the juicy and delectable scents, the shaker and the soft sponge applicator. Juicy Shakers are available in 8 shades, all with their own mouth-watering fragrance. Find them at your nearest Lancôme counter now for R270 each. SHAKE IT! TWIST IT! LOVE IT!...
