Last year we did a mini bedroom makeover. I loved it, but it didn’t feel complete. We needed a new bed. Desperately. Crappy thing is that our bed wasn’t even old; the mattress was just horrible. I wasn’t home when our Genie base, mattress and pillows was delivered. My husband signed for the delivery and phoned me to make sure that the delivery was indeed what I told him it would be… a queen size bed. We’re used to beds being delivered or moved around in trucks or on the back of friends’ bakkies. Not in boxes that can fit into most cars! And I kid you not; those 2 boxes in the picture above contained this…

Let’s talk about the base.
The Genie base is an easy-to-assemble, compact packed, creation of wonder.
The internationally patented Genie base, which is engineered in South Africa, is made from virgin plastic material and high grade aluminium. The base has a 5 year guarantee and a 15 year warranty. The base was easy to set up (and can be easily taken apart again if needed) and everything you need to ‘build your base’ is included in the box. That includes an instruction booklet, a tool kit and a standard blue slip on cover.
I was concerned that the base would be flimsy. The word ‘plastic’ had me worried. Once the base was put together, I realised I shouldn’t have been – this base is durable! And another plus… storage space!!
Now the mattress… what was it going to be? Love or hate?

That’s all interesting and good to know, but I’m sure you want to know how I sleep? Fan-freakin-tastic. I struggle to get up in the morning. It used to be because I was tired and stiff; now it’s because I’m just too damn comfortable. Winter is going to be a struggle!

The quilted covering is a favourite feature for me. I also love that it easily assembles and that I will get great rest. The ergonomic pillows, that contours to the neck is so fantastic.
