Winter Skin Saviours

My skin hates winter. More specifically, the onset of winter. I have very dry, eczema-prone skin and when the weather changes, my skin reacts very negatively. I’m talking super sensitive, patchy, dull, scaly. It ain’t pretty. Here are are couple of my favourite products that are helping my skin beat the winter blues. First up are three of my current favourite body oils. As you can see from the empty bottle on the pic, the Human+Kind All-in-One Body Oil is a winner. It is a very thick and nourishing oil and works wonders on those super dry areas. It retails for R150 and you will find it in selected Clicks, Wellness Warehouse, Woolworths and Stuttafords stores. The Nivea Firming Body Oil is another great body oil that I discovered a couple of moths ago. This is my second bottle and I think that says a lot. This oil is perfect for those who aren’t really fond of the feel of body oils on the skin… it absorbs very quickly and it has a lighter feel than most other body oils I’ve tried. This is a great one to use in summer as well and it retails for R100. A recent find that I am very happy with is a budget beauty from Palmer’s. I think I may be one of very few that doesn’t like the scent of Palmer’s products. Something about it puts me off and the scent seems to linger forever. BUT the Palmer’s Moisturising Body Oil isn’t heavily scented at all and it disappears quite quickly. The oil is beautifully moisturising and leaves my skin glowing and...

Sun safety with Justine Solartec

Justine’s new suncare range, Solartec Skincare, was launced on 1 September and the range contains all the products you need to protect against the harsh summer rays. ‘Put your best face forward this summer with the new Solartec Age Defence for Face formulated with the advanced SolarTec-3 Technology and a blend of six botanical extracts.’ This range is said to prevent sun damage with UVA / UVB protection, repair 50% of existing cell damage in just 24hours and it protects against free radicals caused by the sun. Solartec Skincare Age Defence for Age SPF30 is a light weight cream that instantly absorbs into the skin. It doesn’t leave any greasy residue and my skin is left with a pretty glow. I think this product will be perfect for all skin types. Normal price – R240 for 75ml. Solartec Skincare Body Lotion contains a SPF40 and is a water resistant formula. It is not too thick and it doesn’t feel heavy or too greasy on my skin. It did leave a bit of a white sheen and tackiness behind for a little while, but I presume that is because it is water resistant. Once fully absorbed it felt very comfortable on my skin and the tackiness disappeared completely. Normal price – R245 for 125ml. Solartec Skincare Active Sun Protection Spray SPF50 is my favourite product from the range. It comes in an aerosol spray can and the product comes out as a watery foam. It spreads very well and my skin is left feeling smooth and soft with a beautiful sheen. It doesn’t feel like a sunscreen at all; just...
Kiehl’s Baby

Kiehl’s Baby

Cara has very sensitive, very dry and eczema-prone skin. Loads of brands claim that their creams are perfect for delicate skin, but more often than not, they don’t deliver. They either don’t moisturise adequately and/or they cause a negative reaction. I received samples of the Nurturing Baby Cream for Face and Body and I was very happy with the results. Cara skin was soft and nourished while using this cream and it did not aggravate her eczema at all. This pH-balanced and sensitivity-tested cream contains shea butter, apricot kernel oil and purified honey and it is very delicately fragranced. There is also a hair and body wash in the baby range, but there were no samples available L Hopefully we’ll be able to try that when Kiehl’s comes back to Cape Town.   xoxo...
