Lift your spirits ‘Beyond the Blue’ at Africa’s biggest kite festival. The 20th Cape Town International Kite Festival, proudly hosted by Cape Mental Health, will take place in Muizenberg on 1 & 2 November 2014. With kiters coming from as far afield as Germany, New Zealand and Singapore festival-goers can expect to see some amazing kite creations, including Toothless from ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ making his first African flight.

Local kite-makers have a chance to win prizes in the Heritage Kite Competition. The Heritage Kite Award will go to the best ‘Swaeltjie’, a traditional swallow-shaped kite that came to Africa from South-East Asia hundreds of years ago. People can also learn how to make a Swaeltjie at free workshops during the festival, run by master kite-maker Ebrahim Sambo from Athlone. Sambo has been making Swaeltjie kites since he was a child. “My great-grandfather was a slave from Indonesia; he taught my grandfather, who taught my father, who taught me.”

The Cape Town International Kite Festival happens on (and above) the lawns of Zandvlei Nature Reserve, Muizenberg (corner Axminster and The Row), from 10:00 to 18:00 daily. Entry is R30 or R10 for children 12 years and under. With on-stage entertainment, yummy food stalls and an eclectic market, it’s healthy family fun in support of a very good cause.

The Gun Run 2014 was awesome!

I did the 10km Gun Run yesterday and it was amazing. The event was well organised, the people were great and we of course had the best scenery.

Here is the Gun Run 2014 video… with proof that I ran (for a bit at least)! You spot me running past at 1:18 (in the purple top).

Thank you to the lovely ladies that did it with me. I can’t wait for the next one! And thank you to KFM and Outsurance for an awesome event. When do the entries open for next year?! Can’t wait for race day on 11 October 2015.

Check... I got a medal :)
