Hearty + Healthy + Happy at Bugz Playpark

Bugz Playpark is one of our favourite places to visit in the Northern Suburbs. It has everything… open spaces for the kids to run, inside and outside play areas, beautiful greenery and trees, entertainment, rides, swings, swimming ponds, slides, sandpits, great food, free wifi, super helpful and friendly staff… there truly is too much to mention. If you haven’t been there, you are truly missing out on a magical outing for kids of all ages.

Hearty + Healthy + Happy at Bugz Playpark

Bugz Playpark

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to take Cara  and her cousin to Bugz to get a little preview of something very exciting. The time is finally here to share what the Bugz Playpark Balance Bug has delivered. Have a look:

OH-SO-HAPPY, thrilled, delighted, and smiling from ear to ear – Bugz PlayPark has listened to you and made changes that are healthy and new.

Growing healthy, happy children with back-to-basics nutrition and active play has been growing significantly over the years. We’ve seen the effects of high sugar and lack of raw, unprocessed foods and how these eating habits affect little people later on in life. Bugz has very much taken this to heart, and although they remain 100% committed to fun and play, with a few treats along the way, they’ve introduced a world of new menu options for the whole family.

Believing in the power of balance, Bugz has proudly revealed their latest in a long list of charming characters – the “Balance Bug’- whose job it is to ensure that the Park is both good fun and good for you in equal measure. He’s the ultimate reminder to parents to fuel the fun the right way for optimal energy and emotional wellbeing throughout the day. Bugz takes the opinions of their mom-family very seriously, and couldn’t ignore the requests for more in the way of raw foods, fresh juices and wholesome, hearty meals. But in true Bugz-style, the menu is both creative and compelling for the young who simply want FUN! FUN! And more FUN!

We were super excited to see (and taste) all the goodness …

Bugz added fresh juices to the menu and they are divine. I tried Rush of Red which is a blend of beetroot, carrot and apple. I will go to the playpark (on my own) just for that juice. Amazing!

There are a world of new, healthy options at the restaurant too and you are super spoiled for choice if you prefer a healthier lunch for yourself and the kids. The air-fried chicken strips are a kiddies favourite and I discovered a meal that I will have again and again. The warm veg chicken salad is to die for.

Bugz is an amazing party venue and now you can also choose a healthier party box for the big day if you’re worried that the sugar rush is going to be a bit too much to handle. I don’t blame you.

The Balance Bug also has his own dedicated area in the shop to point out all the healthier snacks.

One last word from Bugz:

We haven’t thrown out all sugary delights, we’ve even introduced a Bar One milkshake and a berry waffle that’s OH SO NICE! But our Balance Bug is taking us on a whole new journey as we deliver on our promise to you –

HEALTHY PLAY, THE FUN WAY!

Well done Bugz Playpark. See you this weekend!

GIVEAWAY: Straws For Life says no to plastic straws

I am becoming more and more aware of the destructive nature of humans. Perhaps I was naive when I was younger, or too self-obsessed to notice what we are doing to our beautiful planet. We all know the the phrase ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’, but do we really do all we can to practice this? I know that there is so much more that I can do and one of the practices I am putting in place, is to say no to plastic straws.

Say no to plastic straws

So what’s the big deal about plastic straws? This is what the Two Oceans Aquarium’s Straws Suck campaign has to say about it:

Straws are lightweight and easily blown away by the wind. They are not recyclable. Animals can mistake straws for food, which can lead to their deaths.

The easiest way to not use a straw is to refuse it when you order. That way the waiter will bring you a straw-less drink. You might also want to investigate reusable, or paper straws.

Straws For Life

I was recently introduced to Straws For Life. These gorgeous stainless steel straws will last for years and, let’s be honest, they look damn good too.

Straws For Life is the new alternative to traditional, plastic, single use straws.

Say no to plastic straws

The set I received contains 4 beautiful, eco-friendly stainless steel straws (two straight and two bendy) in a hessian bag. Now I can take my straws wherever I go making it super easy to say no thanks to a plastic straw. The set also includes a convenient cleaning brush. That’s a big win. Plus these beauties are dishwasher friendly.

Pop on over to www.strawsforlife.co.za to have a look at the various sets available and buy your straws today.

I realise that you are probably thinking that your few straws won’t make a difference, but if more of us start making better choices, we can make a difference in the long run.

So say “No Thank You” to that plastic straw, and be an ambassador for the environment by choosing to use your own stainless steel Straws For Life.
