Uriage Hyséac K18

A couple of weeks ago Leigh from Lipgloss is my Life posted a pic on Twitter of the new Uriage Hyséac K18 cream. I immediately took note as K18 = 18% AHA. 18% AHA is a very high concentration, especially for a drugstore brand. Then I read Leigh’s thoughts on the product and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.

This is what made me really sit up and listen: “…if you have oily, blackhead prone skin, this is must-have as it kicks the ass of 99% of the drugstore ‘for spot prone skin’ offerings…” This woman knows her stuff.

Why is this cream a must have?

It contains lactic and glycolic acid (AHA) which exfoliates the surface of the skin (like nothing else) to reveal softer, smoother and more radiant skin. It also contains salicylic acid (BHA) which exfoliates deep inside the pores. The combo makes it perfect for anyone with oily skin that is prone to blackheads and enlarged pores. That unfortunately is me. But maybe thanks to this product, not for much longer. Now, I am not expecting miracles here. There is no way that my pores are suddenly going to disappear. Although there wasn’t a pore in sight when I was pregnant, but that’s not going to happen again so we move on. Now we reach for the acids to help.

The cream itself has a gel-like texture which spreads easily. It did feel a bit tacky just after application, but that feeling disappeared quickly. The morning after the first use, my skin looked fresh and felt smooth. I was happy. But what really impressed me was that I didn’t have to reach for the blotting tissues or my powder quite often as the previous day. Yay. Oiliness be gone. Okay, not completely, but my skin has showed a dramatic improvement where oiliness is concerned. I haven’t been using it long enough to comment about the appearance of my pores but I am convinced that this product is going to make a difference.

What I also like about it is the fact that it is so light. I think it will be suitable for even the oiliest of skins. If you have combination or normal skin, you can still benefit from the 18% AHA, as you can apply it before you apply your moisturiser. That’s what I’ve done, and it works for me. You can also use it a couple of times a week instead of every day. I think all skin types can benefit from using this cream as AHA has so many benefits. Please note that I am by no means a skin care expert (what I know is from reading up, trying new products and personal experience).

I will most definitely repurchase K18 and it has found a permanent place as part of my skincare regime. Two thumbs up Uriage.

A 40ml tube retails for ZAR170 and is available from Dischem and selected Clicks stores.

The Victorian Garden Rosemary & Jojoba Hair Masque

The Victorian Garden is a local company who specialises in creating organic hand crafted products using old Victorian recipes to make luscious lotions and potions, whilst deeply caring for the environment, animal welfare, the community and ‘the damage being done to our bodies and our planet by all the chemicals used in today’s skincare products’. This company is passionate about creating quality products that are affordable.

Do yourself a favour and go read The Victorian Garden History. Now I want to spoil all the ladies in my life with these special products.

I love hair masks. Problem is, most affordable ones feel as though they do pretty much the same as a normal conditioner. So it doesn’t happen often that I would repurchase one – it really needs to impress me.

The Rosemary & Jojoba Hair Masque with Peppermint by The Victorian Garden will be bought as soon as the current one nears the end.

I received this masque at our first #BloggersWhoBless event and I was quite excited to try something by The Victorian Garden.

This masque has been designed to care for hair that is dry, damaged and/or chemically treated. Jojoba wax, Shea Butter, Avocado, Rosemary and Lime essential oils and Peppermint work together to strengthen, moisturise, repair, protect and sooth the hair and scalp.

The masque is thick and smells lovely. My hair feels soft and nourished after use and the peppermint gives your scalp a lovely tingle.

The point of this post is actually to tell you about what this product has done for Cara’s hair. I’ve been using it to condition her hair every day over the past week. I have to wash her hair every day as she goes to a play school and her favourite place to play is the sandpit. She has blonde curly hair that has always been very dry. I struggle to find shampoo that doesn’t feel like it’s stripping her hair, so a good conditioner is a must. Also, my little girl looks like she wants to sport dreadlocks in the mornings. You don’t want to know what that ‘bossiekop’ looks like when she wakes up! To sum up, naturally dry hair that takes a beating from daily washing and knots that I sometimes want to take a pair of scissors to. This masque has transformed her hair from ‘crunchy’ to smooth. It doesn’t take quiet as long to detangle and her hair is smooth and shiny and the curls form beautifully. Her hair looks healthy. Winning!

I am really impressed with this product (that is so affordable at ZAR95) and can’t wait to try more from VG.

You can shop HERE.
