The ABC of Adventure Boot Camp for Women

You have probably noticed on the blog and on Twitter that I joined Adventure Boot Camp at the beginning of June. Okay, you can’t really have missed it because I have been going on and on about it. I won a 2 camp membership and I was over the moon when I got the news.

Here is the ‘skinny’ on ABC… see what I did there?

ABC is a 4 week outdoor exercise programme programme that offers fitness instruction, nutritional counselling and motivational training packed with fun exercises designed to help you reach your fitness goals. It is designed for women of all ages, sizes and fitness levels. Here are a couple of pics I got off the web:

Along with the excitement of starting to exercise again, I was also very scared to be honest. I doubt that I have ever been as unfit as I was at the beginning of camp. On day 3 I was ready to give up. I was in so much pain. Every muscle in my body complained. But I put on my big girl panties and went back. I am so glad I did. After two weeks of training I could already see a difference to my stomach especially. That made me very happy as I am still carrying the remnant of a preggy belly around (insert ugly cry here). My husband also noticed. And I feel good. I forgot how good it feels to move and to breathe.

I love that we exercise outside in the fresh air and that every day is different. I am also part of an amazing group of women who have not once looked down on me when I’m standing there all red-faced and huffing and puffing. They are all super supportive. I love my group. And our trainer is phenomenal! She knows her stuff and she makes the session so much fun. But don’t try and cheat or she’ll make you run. Hey, Ang? ;)

Unfortunately the flu hit me hard and I missed almost 2 weeks of camp. But the next camp is starting on 14 July and I am amped.

I highly recommend ABC. Check out their website HERE to find a camp near you.

When I read the above and realised that they have nastie-free hair care products, I knew I had to try some (the whole healthy hair journey, and all). Keep reading to the end though as the last one is my favourite.

Potion Lotion R165 (225ml), TLC R185 (225ml), Daily Tonic R260 (500ml)
Potion Lotion R165 (225ml), TLC R185 (225ml), Daily Tonic R260 (500ml)

The Daily Tonic is a detangler like no other we’ve tried. It’s a cocktail of natural ingredients which include ‘ultramarine polysaccharides for effortless styling and our pure plant essences which release their fumes all day long, both delighting our senses and helping to make hair unattractive to head lice.’ It works like a charm to detangle Cara’s hair when we need to get it looking pretty between washes and it works great as a leave-in conditioner after a wash (and condition). It leaves her hair shiny and soft. I have not been able to figure out if I like or dislike the scent. It’s not particularly unpleasant; it’s just different I guess. I do know that I love that the scent is not artificial and the fact that lice hates it is a bonus.

The TLC body and hair wash is a natural no-tears formula suitable for the most sensitive of skins.  It’s so gentle because it ‘contains ingredients which match the oils and amino acids found naturally in the skin.’ This wash foams beautifully and cleans thoroughly without leaving Cara’s hair or skin feeling dried out or stripped. Two thumbs up.

Before I tell you about Potion Lotion, please remember that eczema is a very ‘individual’ ailment. What works for one person, may not work for another as the cause and triggers for eczema varies from the one person to the next. Cara’s eczema is caused by food allergies, while mine is more related to stress and I suffer most during change of season. I hope that this cream may also work for you!

My ABC workouts take place outside at 5:30 in the morning. It was particularly cold when I started the camp and I could see that my hands didn’t really like the cold (gloves sorted that out quickly). If my eczema is already inflamed, my own sweat burns my skin. My hands really looked bad and the skin was broken, swollen and sore.

Round about that time I received the Potion Lotion and when I lathered Cara in the stuff after her bath, the excess would go on to my arms and hands. This is a magic potion!! After 3 days the skin on my hands were healed. I couldn’t believe it. It really helps heal my eczema and it is all natural! It is also beautifully moisturising. I love it and so does Cara. The lotion does have a very potent smell which I’m not too fond of, but that will not stop me from using (and buying) it. It’s awesome.
