Why the Dove beauty bar is the only soap bar you will find in my home

I know there are so many Dove posts doing the rounds once again. Dove always seems to be busy with something new; whether it’s a new range or a new campaign. I really like most of the Dove products out there. The shampoos and conditioners are great, the body washes are lovely and there isn’t a Dove body lotion that I don’t like.

But this post is about the plain white Dove beauty bar. This soap bar has been a staple in my home for at least the last 15 years. We all know the ‘¼ moisturising cream’ line, but with so many other soap bars that claim to contain brilliant moisturising ingredients, why is Dove still the best in my books? Because there is no other soap bar quite as gentle. Period.

I suffer from eczema and my skin is very dry and can be very sensitive. I have tried many soap bars in the past, from aqueous bars to soap specifically designed for eczema prone skin (which cost a fortune by the way). No soap has ever come close to the original Dove beauty bar. It is super gentle and my skin never feels tight or dried out. I will never use another soap bar on my body. Every time Dove releases a new variant, I rush to try it, but none of them has been quite as good as the original. I am very keen to try the new Shea Butter one though (I have the new body lotion from this range and I love it!).

My husband doesn’t care much for his skin. This is an issue for me and I irritate the hell out of him every morning as I don’t let him leave the house before I’ve made sure that he’s moisturised his face. Let’s not even get started on sunscreen (I will leave that rant for another day). Last week I forgot to replace the Dove bar in the shower, and he complained “What am I supposed to wash my face with?” So he actually does care! Good job Dove J

Mommies, please listen up! Cara has food allergies, and when she eats something that she is not supposed to, the eczema flares up (sorry for the bad genes my baby!). Dove is the only soap that works for her sensitive skin. When she was a baby, she also suffered from cradle cap. I tried so many soaps and lotions but nothing helped… until I reached for Dove. I washed her hair with plain old Dove, and her scalp was 100%. That day I threw out all the baby soaps and shampoos and for the first year I only used Dove to wash her body and hair. Whenever I go to a baby shower, mommy-to-be now gets a Dove bar with her prezzie.

Ja, that’s about all I have to say. I’m always on the lookout for new launches and I’m so used to reviewing new products, that I sometimes forget about those ol’ faithfuls that deserve a mention. And that is exactly what the Dove beauty bar is.

The magic that is Dermalogica’s PreCleanse

For years now I’ve heard so many go on and on about Dermalogica’s PreCleanse. Everytime Dermalogica is mentioned, the PreCleanse will pop up somewhere in the conversation or write-up. My sister started using Dermalogica last year and she also can’t stop raving about it. Now, I know Dermalogica (I mean, who doesn’t!) and I know that their products are awesome. But to be very honest, most of their products do not fit my budget. And being a beauty blogger, I get exposed to a lot of products, most of which I enjoy using. Plus I’ve got the double cleanse down. So why should I bother with this product?

Because it’s freakin’ AMAZING, that’s why!

I received a sample size of this magic oil at our most recent Bloggers Who Bless event. I must admit I was curious and quite keen to give it a proper try.

I was completely blown away. I used a few drops on dry skin and massaged it all over my face and neck. Make-up, sunscreen, oil and dirt just melt away. Take note… do not add water at this stage or the product won’t be as effective. Once this is done, I rinse my face with lukewarm water and it’s as though the product and everything it has dissolved, just disappears. I usually follow the PreCleanse with a gel cleanser. Because the oil has done such a fantastic job with the first cleanse, I can feel that my gel cleanser works deeper and is actually cleaning my skin, and not just trying to work through layers of make-up, etc.

I have recently also incorporated a facial massage 2 to 3 times a week as part of my first cleanse at night, and my skin just feels amazing when I do it using PreCleanse (have a look at my post on the facial massage technique here).

Benefits of Dermalogica’s PreCleanse:

  • Removes oil without clogging pores.
  • Conditioning essential fatty acids nourish skin.
  • Enables your current cleanser to work more efficiently.
  • Can be used on any skin type. It is ideal for oily skins.
  • The gentle formula can be used on sensitive skin.
  • It’s gentle enough to use to remove eye make-up and it will even remove waterproof make-up.

The only negative is the price. It is expensive at ZAR520 for 150ml, but the benefits far out way the negative. This product is worth its weight in gold and worth saving for. And with Mother’s Day around the corner… anybody reading this?!

Since using this product, my skin is clearer, softer, smoother and more radiant. Dermalogica gets 5 stars for this one.
