Coopmanhuijs Boutique Hotel and Spa Review

The husband and I recently had the most gorgeous one night stay at Coopmanhuijs in the heart of Stellenbosch. Even though our road trip was actually just a quick drive from Durbanville, it felt as though we were truly on holiday. What helped was the fact that it was a perfectly warm and sunny winter’s day. The Cape was most definitely showing off a bit. Coopmanhuijs is a boutique hotel and spa situated on Church Street in Stellenbosch. Coopmanhuijs was one of the first grand residences in Stellenbosch and was built in 1713. Three years of painstaking renovations turned it into the 5 star establishment it is today. We were not surprised that Coopmanhuijs is ranked as the number one hotel in Stellenbosch on TripAdvisor for the last couple of years since it launched in 2010. The location of is perfect. Church Street in Stellenbosch is filled with beautiful shops and eateries and was quite busy when we arrived. Don’t be fooled in thinking that a stay at Coopmanhuijs would not be relaxing though. The moment we stepped in the foyer, we realised it is a perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle. The staff was absolute amazing and immediately made us feel at home. We stayed in a lovely Classic Manor room with the most gorgeous bathroom (and lovely Charlotte Rhys lotions and potions). The room décor is warm and it truly is “where the comfortable becomes the remarkable”. And the bed… oh my. A king size extra length bed. Needless to say an afternoon nap was imminent. But first lunch. We knew that we were in for a...

Must love dogs! Doggie Day at the Stellenbosch Slow Market

Wagging tails and slobbery kisses will be the order of the day on Saturday when the Stellenbosch Slow Market celebrates man’s best friend. People are invited to bring their small to medium sized dogs with and make their canine family members the stars of the day in a parade, as well as show them off in competitions in order to be crowned as the most beautiful dog, the most energetic, and one with the most character. South Africa’s most famous celebrity dog, Bob (of popular SABC3 breakfast show Expresso) will add some star quality when he attends as a VIP on the day. Expresso will also be filming an insert of the celebrations, so the canine winners will be able to add “TV star” as one of their achieved doggie bucket list items. Hill’s Pet Nutrition, a leading pet food manufacturer, will be sponsoring a variety of prizes on the day ranging from bags of food, treats and other goodies. The parade will be taking place at 11h00 on the lawns of the Oude Libertas Estate in Stellenbosch where the Slow Market is located (the market is open from 09h00 to 14h00). All this, plus the usual culinary delights and surprises at the market will be on offer. There is no entry fee for the Stellenbosch Slow Market and parking is freely available. It sounds like a super fun day and well worth a visit. For more information, visit http://www.slowmarket.co.za, call +27 21 886 8514, or email admin@slowmarket.co.za.
