Some of the foods sold with labels like “low fat, sugar free, fat free, healthy and diet friendly” may be misleading to those who have committed to strictly following a medical weight loss plan. Again, and as always, please note that all medical weight loss friendly food are only diet friendly when enjoyed in moderation.

Medical Weight Loss Friendly Foods

Leafy Greens

Leafy greens like spinach, swiss chard, and the famous weight loss beacon that is kale, are all medical weight loss friendly foods. They have earned their prestigious number one spot on this list due to the fact that they are very low in calories while containing boatloads of fibre. Including leafy greens in your medical weight loss meals is a great way to bulk them up to satiate you better without tipping the scales.

Eggs

Now, I know what you are thinking: “they must mean egg whites”. Eggs used to get bad press within the weight loss world a few years ago due to the fact that they contain cholesterol. However, the fact that eggs contain cholesterol does not necessarily mean they will raise cholesterol in the majority of people. Only hypercholesterolemia individuals or those of the ApoE4 gene variant will react adversely to consuming whole eggs on a daily basis.

Whole eggs are one of the greatest medical weight loss foods because they are:

  • Jam-packed with protein
  • Affordable
  • Satiating
  • Nutrient dense (especially in the yolk)

Tuna

This is another great medical weight loss food because it is low fat (tinned in water, not oil), high protein, affordable and incredibly versatile. This should be especially high on your list if the medical weight loss diet you are interested in requires you to boost your protein intake.

Chili Peppers

This is not only a fantastic ingredient that allows you to add much needed kick and packs of flavour without adding calories but it can actually help you lose weight. The antioxidant called capsaicin can help you to achieve and maintain a healthy weight while also helping you to feel full for longer and discourage overeating.

Water

Ok, fine, it’s not food, but if you begin to make water a part of your everyday life you will not only see what all medical weight loss blogs in South Africa are on about but you’ll feel better too! Keep this in mind when you’re shopping for groceries because foods that contain lots of water are hydrating and nourishing. Foods that are hydrating and nourishing are high up on the list of medical weight loss friendly foods, like cucumbers, celery, lettuce and cabbage.

Grapefruit

The final medical weight loss hero ingredient on our list is the super fruit that we know as the humble grapefruit. Not only is the amazing grapefruit also hydrating and delicious while still being low in calories, grapefruit can actually actively help you to lose weight.

Now that you see how easy and affordable it is to stock your cupboards with foods made to help you lose weight what excuse is left? You could always Google “medical weight loss clinics near me” to go about medical weight loss with a doctor in your corner to advise and help you along the way. Know that we will be here cheering you on to victory through your weight loss journey.

Grab some water and get a move on!

The Slender Challenge: 6 week weigh-in

I hit the half way mark of the Slender Challenge and it’s been tough. This challenge is not easy. Well, has losing weight ever been easy?! I’ve had my fair share of cravings and temptations and it’s been hard, but I have stuck to the plan (as best I could at times) and I am so happy with my results.

The slender challenge

I had my 6 week weigh-in on Friday, and…

14 kgs down in 6 weeks!!

Can you believe it?! I sometimes can’t. It’s been hard work, and I still have at least 10 kgs to go, but I feel great. And I don’t look too bad either, if I do say so myself. I had to go jeans shopping this morning as my current pairs look horrible om me. 6 weeks ago they were too snug and extremely uncomfortable. Now they are almost falling off!

I want to thank Body Renewal for the Slender Challenge and for the chance to change my life. This time WILL be the last time!

Here’s a quick recap of the program I’m following:

Body Renewal Weight Loss Program

  • It is a medical weight loss program which specifically targets abnormal and resistant fat, which results in slimming and shaping of the body.
  • A highly professional team lead by a medical doctor assesses every patient.
  • In this consultation your medical history will be evaluated.
  • The doctor will then decide whether any blood tests are necessary.
  • A team of registered nurses supports each patient in their weight loss journey to ensure the best results are obtained.

The program is based on improving sensitivity to Leptin and has four components:

  • a low GI diet
  • Weight loss supplements / nutraceuticals in the form of capsules and powder,
  • a daily meal replacement with a low GI health shake
  • Daily injections of a lipotropic substance (HCG) that targets and releases abnormal fat in the body.

If the program is strictly adhered to patients lose between 8 to 10 kilograms a month for women, 10 to 15 kilograms a month for men, generally find it quite easy, and feel good with high energy levels. In fact, depressed patients have mood elevation as the Leptin levels “Kick in” 7 days into the program. Many of our patients have tried numerous other well-known diets but find this to be the magic one that actually works.

Head on over to the Slender Blog to see how the other contestants are doing. I am so proud of us all!
