Is brush time a battle in your home? You are not alone! We struggled when Cara was smaller. We tried so many different toothbrushes and toothpastes… most of which ended up in the bin. Today I want to tell you about Elgydium Kids and Junior toothpastes. These will not be tossed! I promise.
End brush time battles with Elgydium Kids toothpaste
Last year I received a tube of Elgydium toothpaste to try and my husband and I loved it. We also received a sample of Elgydium Kids from our dentist when Cara went for a check-up. Our dentist loves Elgydium too. Cara loved it and I immediately went to Dis-Chem to get her a full size tube.
Why is Elgydium so awesome, you ask?
First of all, the kids and junior toothpaste come in yummy flavours; Red Berries and Banana for 2-6 year olds and Bubblegum for 7-12 year olds. That was the first plus for me as Cara hates anything even remotely minty.
Reason number 2 – the ingredients:
1. Fluorinol (a patented second generation amine fluoride, also referred to as an organic fluoride) assists in remineralising (i.e. repairing) your tooth enamel. Simply put, this means there is less opportunity for cavities and tooth decay. When compared to sodium fluoride (the most commonly used fluoride), five times more fluorinol adheres to the tooth surface within the first minute of brushing.
2. Siliglycol is a film forming agent that prevents sugars from adhering to the teeth. At the same time it improves fluoride adhesion to the tooth surface.
3. No nasties! Elgydium Kids and Junior toothpastes are free from SLS and parabens. The fluorinol concentration is also at an age appropriate level in each variant, even if your child swallows their toothpaste (although we recommend you encourage them to spit).
We were on the last drop of Cara’s tube, when we received the press drop containing all 3 of the kids’ variants. We are set for a while now. But I promise you, Elgydium was already on my shopping list as this is the BEST toothpaste we have ever used for Cara. Try it. I know you’ll agree.
Elgydium also sent us a few pointers to make sure we take great care of Cara’s pearly whites.
1. DO brush for your children until they can write comfortably – before then they don’t have the dexterity to do it properly themselves. You can allow them to brush for a portion of the time, but ensure that you do the majority of the brushing.
2. DON’T wait for permanent teeth to arrive to start taking oral health seriously. The condition of milk teeth affect how permanent teeth will develop, and oral hygiene has a significant impact on your overall health.
3. DON’T skip evening brushing – if sugar and bacteria have all night to do damage you’re much more inclined to developing cavities. If you’re only going to brush once a day, do so before bed.
4. DO encourage your child to spit out their toothpaste. Excessive ingestion of fluoride is not recommended.
5. DO set a timer for your child to help them get used to brushing for two minutes per session.
6. DO encourage your child to watch themselves in the mirror while they brush – it helps them cover all areas.
7. DO reward your child for good brushing habits.
