Christmas Gift Ideas For Kids

Have you done your Christmas shopping yet? I actually got a fright this morning when I realised that Chrismas is only a month away. I’ve seen the Christmas decorations in the malls and I’ve heard the carols blasting from the speakers, but I don’t think that it actually sunk in. If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed (like I do), why not have a look at the great Christmas gift options below. These will surely keep the kids away from the TV over the holidays (and then perhaps you can get a turn to catch up on your series).

If you have a little one who loves books, Kids Book Club is the perfect gift option. I’ve reviewed them before HERE. Cara can’t wait for her book club parcel to arrive every month. And honestly we have not been disappointed. Every month you receive two books for the little one, a cute carry bag and a couple of mags (which is a nice bonus as I don’t ever buy magazines). Below is a pic of some of the books that we’ve received. I like that we’ve built up a nice collection and that it’s a mix of story, educational and activity books. We highly recommend www.KidsBookClub.co.za.

‘Did you know that there are at least 1.5 million ants for every person on earth? Or that goats and sheep have rectangular pupils? And that elephants can be right- or left-tusked?’ Do you have kids in the house who love interesting facts like these? Then Fast Facts by Helen Lewis is a must. The book is fun, colourful and contains 224 pages jam packed with interesting and strange facts for young and old. Cara is still a little young for this one, but it’s definitely on my reading list for December. The recommended price for Fast Facts for Inquisitive Minds is R235, but I saw this morning that it’s available on Takealot for R212. For more great books by Helen Lewis and other great reads, pop on over to Metz Press.

If you are looking for gifts to get the kids playing outside (and get rid of some energy over the holidays), Hamleys  has got a great selection for you by Moov’ngo. These are some my favourites that I think Cara will love. On a side note: Hamleys has announced the opening of their third South African shop, at Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton at 15:00 on the 1st of December 2015.

Whether it’s reading or writing, literacy is an outlet to an untouchable world – your imagination. Not only is literacy a basic human right, it is a fundamental building block for learning as well as a personal empowerment tool. It is the catalyst for social and global progress.

On September 8th, 2015, let’s show the world the importance of literacy by celebrating International Literacy Day. Help join communities around the globe to act as a united voice in raising awareness for those who cannot read or write.
