GIVEAWAY: Straws For Life says no to plastic straws

I am becoming more and more aware of the destructive nature of humans. Perhaps I was naive when I was younger, or too self-obsessed to notice what we are doing to our beautiful planet. We all know the the phrase ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’, but do we really do all we can to practice this? I know that there is so much more that I can do and one of the practices I am putting in place, is to say no to plastic straws.

Say no to plastic straws

So what’s the big deal about plastic straws? This is what the Two Oceans Aquarium’s Straws Suck campaign has to say about it:

Straws are lightweight and easily blown away by the wind. They are not recyclable. Animals can mistake straws for food, which can lead to their deaths.

The easiest way to not use a straw is to refuse it when you order. That way the waiter will bring you a straw-less drink. You might also want to investigate reusable, or paper straws.

Straws For Life

I was recently introduced to Straws For Life. These gorgeous stainless steel straws will last for years and, let’s be honest, they look damn good too.

Straws For Life is the new alternative to traditional, plastic, single use straws.

Say no to plastic straws

The set I received contains 4 beautiful, eco-friendly stainless steel straws (two straight and two bendy) in a hessian bag. Now I can take my straws wherever I go making it super easy to say no thanks to a plastic straw. The set also includes a convenient cleaning brush. That’s a big win. Plus these beauties are dishwasher friendly.

I realise that you are probably thinking that your few straws won’t make a difference, but if more of us start making better choices, we can make a difference in the long run.

So say “No Thank You” to that plastic straw, and be an ambassador for the environment by choosing to use your own stainless steel Straws For Life.

GIVEAWAY: Who are you, Mr Goo?/Wie is jy, Mnr Slym?

Do you have a slime obsessed little reader in the house? Then this giveaway is for you.

Who are you, Mr Goo? / Wie is jy, Mnr Slym?

GIVEAWAY: Who are you Mr. Goo?/Wie is jy, Mnr Slym?

Did you know that imaginary friends go to school? They learn who their human friend will be and how to be their best friend. Mr Goo is Ted’s imaginary friend, but Ted wants nothing to do with him! What to do?

The fantasy world created by Zanri Kritzinger and award winning illustrator Stephen Wallace will delight little ones and teach them the value of good friends and working together to solve a problem.

We received copies of Who are you, Mr Goo? and Wie is jy, Mnr Slym? a couple of weeks ago and immediately feel in love with the story. They say kids with imaginary friends are highly intelligent and creative… they do say that, right? I have to agree because Cara has her friends and I had ‘Wayne’ – no idea how I came up with his name. Haha.

This seemingly simple story comes with a big message: the value of friends. The story is beautifully written and the highly imaginative artwork makes this tale one that will be loved by all.

The book also contains an edible slime recipe. We tried it and it got two thumbs up from our resident slime expert.
