Wema brings you the natural goodness of Mafura and Shea Butter

Mafura Butter (Trichilia Emetica) or Natal Mahogany Butter is rich in essential fatty acids (palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic) and has been shown to have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity due to the presence of limonids such as Trichilin A’.

Now I have no idea what most of that means and why it’s good for you, but the anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial part caught my attention. This means that the butter could be great to treat enflamed eczema. And I am happy to say it is. I have used it to treat both mine and Cara’s and I am very happy with the results. It is a fantastic skin moisturiser and great treatment for dry and brittle hair. The butter itself is a caramel colour and the scent has ‘yummy nutty undertones’ (stolen from the web as I had no idea how to describe the scent).

Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii) or Karité Butter is rich in proteins of oleic acid, excellent moisturizer and emollient, provides extraordinary softness to dry skin protecting the tissues.’

I was so excited to try Shea Butter as most of my favourite moisturisers contain this wonder ingredient. I have used the Shea butter to moisturise my hands and cuticles and I have used it as a hair treatment. You can’t easily top the moisturising qualities of Shea Butter. I have also used it as an all over body moisturiser for Cara and it can’t be beat. I apply it after her bath in the evening and her skin still feels soft and supple the next morning. Note that her skin is extremely dry because of her eczema and the cold weather. In short, I LOVE Shea butter. The Shea Butter is white in colour with a feint scent that is actually quite pleasant.

Both of these butters come in a solid and I use a teaspoon to scrape some product from the pot. Both butters melt in your hands (with a little bit of work), but I find that the Mafura Butter melts a bit easier. Because of the delayed absorption of the butters into the skin, they are suitable as medium oils for massage. I find that the Shea Butter absorbs a little bit quicker. For this reason I prefer the Shea Butter as a moisturiser.

Both of these products are amazing and with so many uses, I will make sure to have at least one of them in the house from now on.

Shea Butter and Mafura Butter both retail for R100 for 100ml.

Oh So Heavenly Newbies

I’m sure you’ve noticed that I am a HUGE fan of Oh So Heavenly. They are constantly bringing out new products, variations and scents and their stuff is cheap as chips. Here are a couple of newbies that are now on shelves at Clicks.

Scentsations Perfectly Peared Body Lotion is a light, fast-absorbing lotion that leaves you skin soft and smooth and smelling of pears and blossoms. Perfect for those who do not like heavy and think body creams. It’s lovely and a steal at R22 for 300ml.

The Cool ‘n Confident Powder Soft Anti-perspirant contains powder to keep underarms extra dry and moisturisers to keep your skin soft. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but the scent is pretty and subtle. R20 for 100ml.

Happy Hands Creamy Caress Hand & Nail Cream contains moisturising Milk Proteins and Yogurt Extract to help nourish hands and nails. I love the scent off the Creamy Caress range and I have purchased quite a few from the range myself. It smells clean and fresh. My hands are left feeling soft, smooth and hydrated. The huge 140ml tube goes for R29.

Honestly, OSH’s body spritzers are probably the only products from this brand that I am not a fan of. The ones I’ve tried are fruity or floral and I don’t like sweet scents, not for a spray at least. BUT the Scentsations Fresh Start Body Spritzer is awesome. The scent is clean and fresh with hints of geranium, ylang ylang and iris. I absolutely adore it! This spritzer is perfect to freshen up during the day, or after a shower/bath in the evening. It is going to be great in summer. I also see myself spraying this on my bedding. Problem is that my Gran has already decided that this one belongs to her. But at only R22 for a 100ml bottle I can afford to stock up. And trust me, I will.

PS Don’t forget about the new OSH body butter that I mentioned HERE. And be on the lookout for Mum & Cherub reviews next week.

xoxo
