Philips Sonicare Toothbrushes – Brighter smiles for the whole family

A few months ago I received a Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite electric toothbrush and I couldn’t wait to put it to the test.

Years ago I decided to give an electric toothbrush a go, and I decided immediately that I would never go back to manual. The performance of an electric vs manual toothbrush can’t really be compared as an electric brush does the job so much better.

As my old electric toothbrush was on it’s way out, I was very keen to give the Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite toothbrush a try to see how it performs… once again no comparison.

Philips Sonicare – Brighter smiles for the whole family

Philips Sonicare Healthy White

The Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite is the best toothbrush I have ever used and it will take serious convincing to get me to change again. My mouth feels clean and healthy after every use and my teeth look whiter. It definitely does get rid of surface stains.

It took me a couple of days to get used to the brushing motion of this toothbrush. I was used to a small round head that rotates, whilst the Sonicare makes use of sonic vibrations that were very ticklish at first. The more ‘traditional’ shaped brush head gives up to 31 000 brush strokes per min. Once you are used to a super charged cleaning like this, you will never look back. HealthyWhite also has a built-in timer which guides your brushing time as well as 30 second whitening mode. Another plus is the fantastic battery life. This first time I had to charge it I actually forgot where I put the charger (the charge lasted a couple of weeks and my attention span…).

For a healthy, whiter and brighter smile, the Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite toothbrush truly can’t be beat and it’s worth every cent. I was a bit worried that replacement heads may be a bit expensive as this plaque busting tool does not come cheap (price at end of post), but I was surprised to see that the heads retail for about the same as most brands on the market.

After my great experience with my new toothbrush, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands when Cara got the chance to try one too. We’ve never really had issues to get Cara to brush her teeth, but I knew that those little chompers were not getting the cleaning they need and deserve.

I found this on the web and it perfectly sums up the Sonicare for Kids’ great features.

Cara loves her new toothbrush. Philips, those stickers were a brilliant idea. The Philips Sonicare for Kids sports both a low and a high mode to ensure gentle and effective cleaning. The timer gradually works up to the recommended 2 minutes, which is great to get little ones used to it. 2 minutes can seem like a lifetime for a toddler. Fun sounds also help little ones to learn where and how long they have to brush to ensure that they don’t miss any of those precious pearly whites.

Since Cara has started using the Sonicare for Kids (we still help of course as she is only 4) she is a lot more keen to brush morning and night and will quickly remind us if we forget about a brushing. Her little teeth are sparkly and clean and I am assured that my little girl’s teeth and gums are in the best possible hands. This toothbrush is an investment.

Both of the above brushes do carry a hefty price tag, but I can say with confidence that you will not regret a purchase. Especially for the little ones.

The Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite retails for around R1 100 and the Philips Sonicare for Kids for R900. You can find these beauties at Dis-Chem pharmacies and selected Pick ‘n Pay stores.

Thank you for great products Philips.

xoxo

It’s World Oral Health Day

It’s World Oral Health Day today and this year’s theme is ‘Smile for Life’.

World Oral Health Day

World Oral Health Day Smile for Life

I received an e-mail with professional advice from IVOhealth’s oral hygiene expert Dirna Grobbelaar to keep my family smiling – healthily. And I thought I’d share it with you:

  • Brush correctly twice a day – the Philips Sonicare is clinically proven to gently remove more plaque than a manual brush.
  • Brush for a full two minutes each time – the new Philips Sonicare For Kids has a built-in timer to help your children learn how long to brush.
  • Clean in-between the teeth every day – this should start as soon as the teeth start to touch one another, usually from around age two.
  • Find an interdental tool that suits your mouth and lifestyle – floss, an interdental brush, an oral irrigator or the Philips Sonicare AirFloss which jets a microburst of air and water between the teeth at 72 km/h.
  • Gently clean the tongue to remove plaque and food debris – look for specially designed tools.
  • For extra fresh breath confidence older children and adults can swish with an alcohol-free mouthwash like Dentyl Active.
  • Have a professional clean by an oral hygienist every six months and see the dentist each year.
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet avoiding sugary foods and drinks.

I have been using the Sonicare toothbrush for a couple of months now and it is the best toothbrush I have ever used. A review is coming your way soon, but as one is on its way to my little one, I thought I’d rather wait and give you a full review on the Sonicare powerbrush for adults and kids. So keep an eye on the blog.

I do have to share this little tool with you today as it is awesome…

The Sunstar GUM dual action tongue cleaner:

Sunstar GUM tongue cleaner

This little beaut thoroughly cleans your tongue and is a must-have. Cara has decided that it belongs to her and my little girl is adament that she has to clean her tongue too every time she brushes her teeth. I have to get one for myself and hubby now and I have convinced other members of my family to get some as well. After the first (and perhaps gross) use, you will be convinced too that you simple cannot go without. They retail for about R40 and is available from dentists, Dis-Chem, Clicks, selected Pick ‘n Pay stores and pharmacies.
