I received a newsletter this morning containing tips and tricks by Charlene Warwick from Face and Grace Make-Up Agency and the section on translucent powder really stood out. I didn’t realize that this make-up staple is quite so versatile.

Ask any professional makeup artist, and they will tell you that translucent powder is a must-have for any look. Ideal for setting makeup (foundation, blush, concealer, etc.), translucent powder is  a soft, color-free and invisible powder that gives you the most even, long-lasting, natural-looking finish.

Loose powder is a very sheer; pressed powder that gives a slightly fuller coverage, while pressed powder tends to be more sheer in finish.

Regardless of whether you choose loose or pressed, this multi-tasking staple has a ton of uses beyond serving as the final step in your makeup regime.

Here are a make-up artist’s top 5 ways to use translucent powder:

No more sweaty palms and feet Sweating on the hands and feet is very common, especially during the hot summer months. Applying a little translucent powder on your palms or soles of your feet when you feel them getting clammy will help to keep them dry and fresh by absorbing excess oil and water.

Refresh limp locks This is a great trick when you don’t have any dry shampoo handy. Simply shake a little bit of translucent powder into the roots of the hair and gently rub it in to instantly refresh slightly oily hair and provide a volume boost.

Mattify oily lids Apply a bit of concealer to the eyelids then set it with translucent powder. The powder will help soak up excess oil and make your eyes look more awake while providing some extra longevity for your eyeshadow.

Prevent panda eyes After applying your eyeliner on your upper lid, go over it with translucent powder using a small brush.  On your bottom lash line, apply a thin line of powder under your eyeliner and over it. This will help keep your eyeliner in place all day without unsightly smudging.

Plump up lashes For some extra volume on your lashes after applying your first coat of mascara, dust a little translucent powder over lashes using a small brush then finish with another layer of mascara.
