I tried a couple of Paula’s Choice samples

If you are into beauty and make-up, chances are that you have heard of the ‘Cosmetics Cop’, Paula Begoun. I was super jealous of all the beauty gals who got to meet her when she was here in July.

Paula’s Choice

After reading quite a few posts on her visit, and reading reviews of a specific Paula’s Choice product (that just kept on popping up via Twitter and YouTube), I decided to make an enquiry. I wanted some advice before I decided to order (or not). The lovely Annatjie from Paula’s Choice was super helpful and kind enough to send me a couple of samples to try out first.
I tried a cleanser, toner and a couple of moisturisers. The product that stood out was the Moisture Boost Hydrating Treatment Cream. This night cream left my skin feeling soothed, moisturised and super soft and smooth.  I am really considering investing in this one. Perfect for dry, dehydrated and/or ageing skin.
I also received samples of the product that I enquired about originally. I actually ordered it a couple of days before my samples arrived. They had a special offer for Woman’s Day and I couldn’t resist. I will tell you more about this AMAZING product very soon J

I signed up for the Paula’s Choice newsletter and with that I received a copy of 20 Beauty Myths Busted! What Really Works for Clear, Younger-looking Skin. I recommend that you sign up and read what she has to say. I found it very interesting. You can decide for yourself whether you agree with her or not.  To sign up or go shopping, visit Paula’s Choice South Africa.
If you want to know what she thinks of a specific product or what she would recommend for a specific skin concern, have a look at the Beautypedia section on the international site.
Have you tried any Paula’s Choice products? I would love to hear what you think or read your reviews. Please leave your links in the comments section.

Kiehl’s Rare Earth

Yes, it’s another Kiehl’s review… What can I say? I love their products. You can read about Kiehl’s coming to my rescue HERE. I have been using three products from their Rare Earth range.

Kiehl’s Rare Earth

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Minimizing Lotion

Kiehl’s Rare Earth

This lotion is lightweight and oil-free and contains Amazonian White Clay which helps to absorb excess oil. This product is said to help minimise and refine the look of enlarged pores.

I have been using it twice daily under my moisturiser. It can be used as a moisturiser, but my skin is a bit too dehydrated at the moment, so I need to add some moisture. I believe that this lotion (used alone) will be an effective moisturiser for me during the summer months though. The lotion is thin, spreads and absorbs easily and doesn’t leave my skin feeling sticky or ‘heavy’.

I haven’t noticed that my pores appear smaller or more refined, but I also realise that this is no easy feat. This product is however doing a good job at keeping my skin from looking like an oil slick by midday and my pores don’t seem to be as clogged as usual. Good job I say! Oh yes, and it comes in a pump bottle (Aunty Paula would be happy to hear J).

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser

Kiehl’s Rare Earth

The cleanser contains Amazonian White Clay and Diatomaceous Earth particles which assist to remove oil, dirt and toxins that can clog your pores. This is a daily cleanser, but I find it way to harsh for my skin. I use it as an exfoliator before I use the Rare Earth mask. I am not a huge fan of manual scrubs, because they tend to aggravate my skin causing flaking, redness and the occasional breakout. This product has done a good job at exfoliating my skin and giving it a good clean so that the mask can work its magic. It also doesn’t leave my skin feeling stripped, which is a plus. A little also goes a long way with this product. Because my skin is so sensitive, I won’t purchase this product for myself but I would recommend that you try it if you have oily skin.

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque

Kiehl’s Rare Earth
‘A masque that helps to purify and detoxify skin while minimizing the appearance of enlarged pores. Formulated with Amazonian White Clay to gently draw out oil, dirt and toxins that clog pores. The addition of Oatmeal and Aloe Vera helps soothe, hydrate, and protect sensitive skin.’
This is my favourite product of the Rare Earth range that I’ve tried. It’s a clay mask that dries quickly and it leaves my skin feeling super clean, without that tight, dry feeling. My skin looks and feels smooth after use. I use it twice a week, but I feel that it’s gentle enough to use more often (if my baby girl gives mommy some pamper time). I like the consistency of this mask as it is more ‘watery’ than most clay masks that I’ve tried. So even if you leave it on to dry completely, it doesn’t cause any discomfort. You only have to apply a thin lather of product for it to work its magic which means the pot is really going to last for ages (really!). I highly recommend this mask and I will definitely purchase it when this pot is finished (eventually).
