Jean baré and my amazing facial

I received a Jean baré sample in my #CPTBloggerMeet goodie bag and I was grateful to find an info sheet with the sample, as I have never heard of this brand before. I tried the deep cleanse mask and immediately e-mailed Madré, the account manager, as I wanted more. I bought the mask and I am very impressed. Review of this product will be posted later this month. Madré also invited me to come for an introductory facial. Who am I to say no?!

When I arrived at Salon Capri (in the Northern Suburbs), I immediately felt at home. The girls are so friendly and extremely passionate about Jean baré and the services that the salon offers. Madré gave me a bit more info on the brand itself and took me through the product range. There is so much I can tell you, but here is the short version…

Jean baré is cosmo-medical skincare range that has been around for over 25 years.  The range originated from treatments specifically designed for albinism and skin cancer in Namibia in the early 1970’s and has since evolved into Jean baré skincare. The range consists of an extensive home care range which is supported by a full professional range. From what I’ve experienced so far, the range is affordable and effective and the brand truly believes in their products and bringing the client quality skincare.

My facial started with a thorough double cleanse. I found it very interesting that this range has two cleansers that work together. I am a big fan of double cleansing. If you aren’t, why not?! Double cleansing has made such a difference to my skin. Anyway, back to the facial. The first cleanser is a Gel Cleanser that contains Cocomide (derived from coconut oil). Cocomide emulsifies skin impurities (in order to rinse it away) and as the Cocomide lowers the pH-level of the skin, it also treats unwanted bacteria. ‘This gel cleanser is thus responsible for not only leaving the skin clean and anti-septic, but by lowering the pH of the skin, it also prepares the skin for better penetration of products to follow the cleansing routine of the skin.’
The Milk Cleanser followed. This cleanser contains avocado oil that dissolves sebum, whilst moisturising the skin. It also elevates the skin’s pH-level to balance out the gel wash’s lower pH. This step in the cleansing process feels just as good as the first. My skin was left feeling super clean without feeling stripped. These two cleansers are part of the homecare range and they can take the place of your pre-cleanser, cleanser and toner. I am very tempted to get these two when my current products run out.
Next up was a thorough exfoliation using Derma Rub which contains round polyethylene granules and citric acid. My skin was left feeling soft and very smooth after this step.
Madré then applied the Debraiding Colloidal Oats Mask (DCO Mask) which forms part of the professional salon range. ‘An age preventative mask, which speeds up the process of cell turnover through the means of skin exfoliation.  Anti-aging ingredients promotes collagen syntheses, inhibits the formation of melanin and leaves the skin moistured and smooth.  Oatmeal, the main ingredient, relieves any itchiness and calms the skin.’ While this mask was doing its magic, I was spoiled with a neck, shoulder and hand massage.

I have been for quite a few facials before and in my experience, the treatment usually ends with the mask being removed, a moisturiser slapped on and then you’re out of there. Most of the time I feel as though not much care is taken after the mask, but this facial is different. Madré applied a Skin Booster, which is a free radical scavenger, luxurious Eye Balm, the Glikaloid Neck Serumand ended off with the Multisome Day Cream. My skin truly felt pampered.

One thing that stood out for me was the fact that my skin looked totally calm afterwards. I could immediately show my face in public, which isn’t always the case after a facial.

I thoroughly enjoyed my facial and learning more about Jean baré. I left the salon with a couple of samples and my mask and feeling completely satisfied with my facial and the service I received. I will be going back for more treatments and I look forward to trying more from this range.

If you are keen to try the facial that I had, you have until Friday to get it at a bargain – an Introductory facial for R150 or an Advanced facial including a back and neck massage for only R400.

Visit Salon Capri’s website HERE to find out more about what the salon offers, or mail Madré for more info on Jean baré.

Nivea’s new CELLular Anti-Age Serum

Just over a month ago I read about the new Nivea Cellular Anti-Age skincare range. I love all things Nivea, but I have never really found a facial product that caught my attention… until I read Candice-Lee Kannemeyer’s post on this new range HERE. I just love her blog.

Nivea’s new CELLular Anti-Age Serum

This specific sentence made my rush to Clicks: While at the press launch sampling the product, my beauty bestie, (who shall remain nameless) after trying the serum, leaned over and whispered the following in my ear; “this smells and feels exactly like La Prairie”. We looked at each other and said, “we are so using this tonight!” And we did, and have been since.

I am SO glad I did, as I am completely in love with this serum.

Here are the reasons why:
  • The product has the ‘gel-like’ feel of a serum, but absorbs instantly. It doesn’t feel like it ‘sits’ on my skin.
  • My skin feels pampered and calmed immediately after application.
  • My sensitive, eczema-prone skin has only reacted positively to this product.
  • The scent is lovely, but feint. I really don’t like facial products that have a heavy/over-bearing scent.
  • My skin feels moisturised after application… I sometimes forget that I still need to apply my moisturiser.
  • My skin is left feeling soft and smooth.
  • It contains Hyaluronic Acid. BIG plus!
  • It retails for only R180. I think this is a bargain as this is truly a quality product.
  • The packaging is sleek and sophisticated and has a pump dispenser.
  • I have been using it twice daily for a month, and the 40ml isn’t finished yet.

This product will most definitely be on my ‘Best of 2013’ list. I highly recommend it.
