Love me some Dermalogica

At our most recent #BloggersWhoBless event, we were spoiled with a couple of Dermalogica travel size products. I was quite chuffed… well, because it’s Dermalogica. No need to explain anything here. What did surprise me was the fact that some of these impressed me just as much as Dermalogica’s PreCleanse did. I didn’t think that was possible.

Special Cleansing Gel

This is a lovely soap-free foaming cleanser that leaves my skin clean, but not feeling tight or stripped. It really is very gentle. What impressed me most was the fact that I only need the tiniest drop of cleanser. When I say tiny, I really mean tiny. I keep on using too much. The cleanser is expensive at R480 for 250ml, but you can get a 500ml bottle for R700 which really is great value for money.

Multivitamin Power Firm

This little powerhouse aims to combat lines around the eye area with ingredients like Retinol, vitamins C and E, as well as silicones to shield vulnerable skin. It has a balmy feel to it and feels lovely to apply. It also works as a lovely base for smooth and even under eye concealer application. R740 for 15ml.

Daily Microfoliant

I wasn’t too excited when I saw this one. I tried a sample years ago and I wasn’t impressed. Either Dermalogica changed it or (most likely) I was just to dof to understand the product back then (being used to exfoliants/scrubs that were grainy and hard). This is what it is: ‘Unique rice-based powder formula activates upon contact with water, releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes that micro-exfoliate dead cells, instantly leaving skin smoother and brighter.’ When I tried it years ago, I expected a scrub. Now I know better. This product is absolutely lovely and I rate it up there with the PreCleanse. My skin is left looking radiant and feeling soft and smooth, without any irritation. I highly recommend this product, especially if you have sensitive skin and most other forms of exfoliation tend to aggravate your skin. R850 for 75g.

Skin Smoothing Cream

If you have combination or dry skin that is sensitive, then this cream is a must. Especially during winter. It immediately calms and soothes my skin, whilst leaving it perfectly moisturised and soft. I have loved it for years, and I will for many years to come. This is one of my mom’s favourites too. R630 for 50ml / R880 for 100ml. Again, this is a pricey product, but it is really worth the price tag and a little goes a long way with this one too.

Perfectly cleansed skin with REN

REN Skincare has two fabulous cleansers that I am really enjoying right now. I am still getting to know this brand, but I am starting to get what all the hype is about. You can also have a look at my review of a couple of gorgeous Morocco Rose Otto body products.

The Rosa Centifolia 3-in-1 Cleansing Water is a cleanser, make-up remover and toner in one and is suitable for even the most sensitive skins as it is alcohol, soap and detergent free. The Rosa Centifolia and Rosa Damascena Petals tones and tightens pores, decongests, protects facial vessels and it will leave your skin feeling fresh and soothed.

It is pretty much what you would expect from a quality micellar solution – it looks and feels like water, but cleanses your skin and removes make-up. But this one seems to pack bit more punch somehow. Usually I need to use 2 to 3 cotton pads soaked in micellar solution before I feel that all traces of make-up are gone, but with this one I only need one and all make-up is removed from my face (eyes need one more). I’m impressed.  This product is great as a first cleanse in the evening or used for a morning cleanse. RRP R250 for 200ml.

The Rosa Centifolia Express Make-up Remover is a ’gentle cleansing milk that quickly and effortlessly removes make-up including waterproof mascara from the face and delicate eye area’… ‘by applying it with a cotton pad and sweeping over closed eyes’.

This is not quite how I would describe it or how I use the product. First of all, it is thick and creamy (and lovely), not quite what I would call a milk and I have been using it as you would a cream cleanser. I massage it into my skin using my fingers and then I remove it using a wash cloth (flannel). My skin is left feeling clean and soothed and I love using it for a morning cleanse. I sometimes use it as a first cleanse in the evening as well as it (obviously) does a great job at removing make-up. This product is gorgeous. It contains Rosa Centifolia to tone and tighten pores, Rice Bran to soften and hydrate and Rose Petals to decongest and soothe. RRP R240 for 150ml.

Two thumbs up for both of these REN.

REN Skincare products are available from selected Woolworths and Foschini stores or online from REN.
