Learning Tools for kids, parents and teachers

Cara is starting Grade RR next year. I still have not completely processed that fact… my child is growing up so fast and I feel like I can’t keep up. But I digress. I am so grateful that my child has had great teachers and I feel very positive about the new school she will be attending from next year, because this mom can’t teach. My brain is just not wired that way. If I had to home school, my poor kid would never learn anything as I would be spending more time researching how and what to teach, than actually teaching.

I do want to do my best to keep her excited about learning though and because there is so much pressure on kids to excel these days, I feel I have to put in more effort.

I recently discovered www.learningtools.co.za and I am so happy that I did!

Learning Tools for children, parents and teachers

Learning Tools was founded by Sarah Ohlson de Fine, a qualified foundation phase teacher who understands how children learn and what teachers need.

Learning Tools imports educational resources of only the highest international standards. Their focus is on bringing high quality, trusted teaching tools into South Africa that help foundation phase and intermediate phase learners achieve success.

Learning Tools games and resources are visually appealing, stimulating, engaging and create a non-threatening learning environment.

Learning Tools is the perfect place to find educational tools for children that will make learning fun, for both kids and parents. They have resources that focus on numeracy, literacy, science, social and emotional development and early childhood development. The also offer great classroom essentials.

I am especially glad that I discovered the Educational Games and Gifts section ahead of Christmas. The board games look fantastic and I have my eye on Mermaid Island and Buzz (the list is actually a mile long, but I better pace myself).

Below are only a couple of the products that they have on offer (just to give you an idea).

#LGFB – Looking Good can make you Feel Better

Look Good… Feel Better is an amazing non-profit organisation that aims to support and uplift cancer patients through their free beauty workshops. These workshops assist women to manage the side effects that chemotherapy and radiotherapy can have on the appearance, thereby helping to restore their self image.

LGFB first started in the US in 1989 and is now active in 26 countries. It was introduced to South Africa in 2004 and has grown to the extent that there are now 280 trained volunteers offering the workshops at 39 treatment centres (hospitals and clinics) across the country. The workshops also provide an invaluable opportunity to connect with other women undergoing the same treatments, to help deal with the sense of isolation and emotional turmoil that typifies the cancer journey.

This powerful video of a workshop held at Groote Schuur shares the effects that cancer treatments have on the skin, as well as interviews with two doctors and four patients undergoing treatment.

Please share this video and spread the word about the invaluable work of Look Good… Feel Better.
