Avène Cicalfate Hand Cream gets 10/10!

I love a good hand cream and Avène Cicalfate Hand Repairing Barrier Cream may just be the best I’ve ever used. Avène Cicalfate Hand Cream gets 10/10 This is what Avène has to say about their new hand cream that’s been available at Clicks and Dis-Chem since end of May: Avène Cicalfate HAND repairs, soothes and protects very dry, irritated and chapped hands with faster action. Fragrance-free, paraben-free. REPAIRING – Sucralfate, an original ingredient, facilitates epidermal repair. PURIFYING – The combination of copper sulfate and zinc sulfate reduces the risk of bacterial proliferation. SOOTHING – Rich in Avène Thermal Spring Water, it soothes fragile skin. Its rich, nourishing texture spreads easily. Rapidly absorbed, transparent when applied, it forms an insulating barrier on the skin for “second skin” protection. The skin on my hands is very (very!) sensitive and because I suffer from eczema, I have to be careful when I choose a hand cream. My hands are also EXTREMELY dry. Avène is a brand that I trust when it comes to my eczema-prone skin, so when I heard about the new Avène Cicalfate Hand Repairing Barrier Cream, I couldn’t wait to put it to the test. The moment I put it on my hands, I knew I loved it. It was thick and creamy and my skin felt soothed. It was like it sighed with relief. But whilst I was rubbing it in, I knew that this was a night cream. There was no way that it would work during the day, it was just too thick… BUT WAIT! Not even a minute later it was all absorbed. No oiliness or stickiness. My...

My Summer Saviour: Bioderma Photoderm MAX SPF50+ Aquafluide

It’s hot. Damn, Cape Town. Enough now. This summer, more than ever before, I’ve made sure never to go in the sun without wearing a good sunscreen. I have been wearing Photoderm Max Aquafluide SPF 50+ a lot. What makes it special? Bioderma Photoderm offers very high sun protection that is suitable for all skin types, including oily and sensitive. The emulsion has an ultra-light texture and a dry touch finish. The “oil free” emulsion is optimised by a complex consisting of 3 powders with matifying properties, and concealing agents for a matt and powdery finish. Cellular Bioprotection® preserves the skin’s immunity, cellular integrity and combats the premature ageing of the skin. Photoderm is also hypoallergenic, non comedogenic, fragrance free, paraben free and water resistant. Aquafluide comes in 3 variants – not tinted, light tint and golden tint. I’m using both the clear and lightly tinted versions.  Both have saved my skin many times over the holidays and it continues to do so. We’re going away this weekend and we will be spending most of it outside by the pool. Photoderm is top of my list of what to pack. I wear the tinted one instead of foundation on days that I don’t want to wear a full face of make-up, but also don’t want to go bare. The coverage is not bad at all, and if set with powder it lasts well. The product itself is very light and it spreads easily. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling suffocated at all. Photoderm really does have a matte finish and I highly recommend you give it a try if you struggle with oily skin. I find that...

L’Occitane Youthful Body Almond Velvet Balm and Velvet Serum Review

Drawing upon the regenerating powers of almond tree native cells, L’Occitane introduces the new Youthful Body Almond Velvet Balm and Velvet Serum. Why Almond? Almond is well-know for its ability to nourish the skin, L’OCCITANE has harnessed the exceptional beautifying power of almond from the south of France and integrated it in body treatments and toiletries that are both deliciously tempting and wonderfully effective. Made with Almonds sourced from Haute Provence, the Almond range, including our delicious shower oil and mouth watering body cream, supports the sustainability of almond trees in the region, as these trees area staple to the beauty of the Provencal landscape. With every L’Occitane product I try, my love for this French brand just seems to grow deeper. Both of these products target 5 key signs of body aging, namely dryness, skin slackening, lack of tonicity, fine lines and skin irregularities. The almond tree flower scent is sophisticated, subtle and truly lovely. The Almond Velvet Balm is a treat beyond any other. The cream is rich and luxurious and leaves my skin feeling soft, smooth and supple. Indulgence at its best. My extremely dry and sensitive skin almost sighs with relief when I apply this cream. R710 for 200ml. The Almond Velvet Serum can be used on its own or before the balm. I was very surprised that even though it feels incredibly light-weight, my dry skin was left feeling comfortable and smooth even when used on its own. I think this is a brilliant product for warmer days or for those who do not like the feeling of cream on their skin, but still need the...

REN Instant Firming Beauty Shot Review

I have a deep love for REN Skincare. Every single REN product I’ve tried has proven to be excellent. My favourites include Flash Rinse, Clarimatte™ Invisible Pore Detox Mask, Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask, the Resurfacing AHA Concentrate and the amazing Moroccan Rose Otto body range. I have another one to add to the above list… REN Instant Firming Beauty Shot. This serum is said to instantly lift, firm and plump to give the skin a smoother, tighter and more youthful appearance. What REN says: ‘Instant Firming Beauty shot is formulated with a liquid matrix of Phycocolloids and two different Hyaluronans. The Hyaluronans work together to produce both short and long term improvements in skin firmness. Hyaluronan 1 acts as a cell messenger focused on improving cell cohesion leading to an instant tightening and lifting effect. Hyaluronan 2 works deeper down in conjunction with dermal fibroblasts to boost elastin synthesis and improve long term skin firmness.’ An evaluation on 30 women proved promising: •83%* of women said their skin felt firmer 30 minutes after application and 90%* said their skin felt firmer after 6 Hours •87%* of women said their skin felt more lifted 30 minutes after application and this remained at 87% after 6 Hours •In a clinical evaluation performed by a dermatologist 100%* of women showed an improvement in skin smoothness after 30 minutes and 87%* continued to show an improvement in skin smoothness after 6 Hours What I say: At first I didn’t really feel that this gel-like serum did much. It felt nice and smells lovely, but I didn’t really notice an ‘instant’ change in my skin. THEN after a few days...

essie Dress to Kilt – Fall Collection

Nail polish addicts please take note… the essie Fall 2014/Autumn 2015 Dress to Kilt Collection is now in store and it’s a goodie. This is an absolutely gorgeous collection and I really struggle to choose a definite favourite. I especially love the darker shades as I adore short, dark nails when the weather turns a little cooler. Here are close-ups of the shades from the essie Fall 2014/Autumn 2015 Dress To Kilt Collection. (Please excuse the blue reflection in these shots… I only noticed it once I downloaded the pics. I think Style Cartel was trying to steal the limelight here.)   Dress To Kilt is a beautiful and classic berry red. This is super shiny one-coater and a must have. I’m not really a fan of red for my fingers, but you can be sure that my toes will be sporting this shade for the next few months. This red can be worn all year round. The Perfect Cover Up was the first shade that I reached for. It is a dark teal and a perfect autum/winter shade. If you are into dark nail polishes, I can almost guarantee that you will fall for this one just as hard as I have. Style Cartel – I have never owned a blue polish quite as beautiful as this one. Style Cartel is something between cobalt and navy and both dark and bright at the same time. I can see my sister and I fighting over this one. It is a stunner. If you like bold, then Style Cartel is for you. Take It Outside is a cool greyish taupe. I...
