Pregnancy Education Week and a GIVEAWAY

‘The Perfect Dance of Birth Hormones’ is the theme of  Pregnancy Education Week from 18 to 26 February 2017, when childbirth educators, Bio-Oil and hospitals around the country highlight how knowledge empowers expectant parents for better pregnancy, birth, bonding and breastfeeding experiences. Childbirth education is proven to have many benefits for expectant parents and the newborn child.  Pregnancy Education Week Lynne Bluff, national co-ordinator of the Childbirth Educators’ Professional Forum, explains how antenatal classes can help facilitate an understanding of the interplay of hormones before, after and during birth.  “Our hormone system prepares us in the final weeks, days and hours for an efficient labour; they help manage the pain and stress and ensure a safe birth. Hormones also give us a feeling of intense reward and pleasure as we meet our baby for the first time. For all this to happen in harmony, the birthing hormones need to work together in perfect synchronicity. At childbirth education classes, parents learn these intricate steps. The knowledge and understanding they gain helps facilitate the ‘dance’ for a better birth experience.” “Four hormones star in the show – oxytocin, endorphins, catecholamines and prolactin. Each brings its own style to the dance of labour. Oxytocin takes the lead, guiding you with love and connection, while catecholamines excite and energize you. Endorphins help you navigate through the daring twists and turns and nurturing prolactin will be there at the dazzling finish to welcome your baby.” Bluff explains several steps that expectant parents can take to best prepare for this perfect ‘dance’:  Most importantly you need confidence that you can give birth to your baby,...

Let’s play cards with Imagine Toys & Games

‘In a time where everything is getting more virtual, we offer children’s games that are totally manual, games that get children to explore, games that stimulate their minds, games that are powered by imagination.’    – www.imaginetoys.co.za That sounds great doesn’t it? In an age where most games are played on cell phones, tablets and consoles, Imagine Toys brings us back to basics. I used to love playing card games as a kid, and honestly, I forgot how much fun it is. Imagine Toys sent us 3 card games to try out over the holidays and we can’t decide which one’s our favourite. Toddles-Bobbles This game is one that sparks the imagination. These 12 cute and colourful creatures have forgotten their names and it’s your job to name them. You have to remember these though! The aim of the game is to collect as many portraits as you can. This game is filled with loads of giggles and it’s super fun. Quick Eye This game consists of a pack of 50 beautiful cards with adjectives describing the world and environment. The aim is to think of (or find) objects that have this quality. The game can also be played in different ways to make it either a bit competitive or not, which makes it great for kids of all ages. With this game there are no limits! Matryoshka This game is loads of fun, especially for the little ones. And it can get quite competitive when the bigger ones play, hehe. The aim is to collect these cards by matching the colour combination cards to the same colours on...

REVIEW: We got a Furby Connect at Toy Kingdom… and it’s AWESOME!

When I saw the TV ad for Furby Connect I knew that Cara would love this interactive toy. And thanks to the awesome people at Toy Kingdom, we got the chance to take one home. It’s no wonder that Furby made it to Toy Kingdom’s Top 50 list of toys for the Festive Season… Furby Connect is AWESOME. I don’t know much about the original Furby. Apparently it was the Christmas gift in 1998. I was at varsity then so toys weren’t really on my radar. Thanks to Hasbro, I can confidently say that Furby Connect is the Christmas gift of 2016. Sorry parents! Furby Connect Review The moment Cara laid eyes on this hot pick ball of fluff I could see she was in love. Furby Connect is so much more than just another fury friend though. Furby is a best friend. From the moment we took Furby out of its box and popped in the batteries, we were in awe of what this toy can do. Furby talks, giggles, sings, eats and farts. Yes, Furby farts. A lot. And Cara thinks it’s hilarious. So do I to be honest. You can feed Furby with your finger and giggle with him when you scratch his tummy. That’s not all! Furby also wiggles his ears and that furry little bod loves to dance. And Furby has the most gorgeous eyes. I think his colourful and expressive eyes are the main reason that I sometimes forget that he isn’t real. These full colour LCD eyes display 150 unique animations. Wow. Furby Connect World App I downloaded the app before we decided...

Toy Kingdom Festive Wishlist – This is what we bought!

A couple of weeks ago we had an outing to Toy Kingdom in Canal Walk to have a look at their Top 50 Toys for the Festive Season and to do a little shopping. Toadie’s Gift Guide is available in store and on Toy Kingdom’s website right now. We had a look at the list before we headed to Canal Walk and let me tell you, our Toy Kingdom Festive Wishlist is a mile long! Cara always has so much fun in the store (especially now that it’s been revamped – make sure to check it out!). In between running around and having a look at all the amazing toys on offer, she loves the play area in the centre of the store. She couldn’t make full use of it this time because of her broken arm, but we will be back soon to go slide and play with all the Lego! After we had some fun, we had to get down to business as there was some serious shopping to be done. Toy Kingdom Festive Wishlist – This is what we bought! I think we spent a full hour in store trying to decide on what to buy! Toy Kingdom really has an awesome selection. There was one specific toy that I had my heart set on, and I was secretly hoping Cara would choose it… and she did! Cara has seen the ad on TV and I had already downloaded the super fun App. When Cara saw the display, I could see that a fluffy pink Furby immediately stole her heart. Look at that face! Keep an...

Sushi and wine at family-friendly John Dory’s Canal Walk

A couple of weeks ago Cara and I spent a lovely afternoon with a few of my favourite bloggers at the newly revamped John Dory’s Canal Walk. This was our first time at John Dory’s and the restaurant is now a firm favourite. Reason number 1: their sushi is goooood! And well priced. I can almost stop this post right here, cause I know a lot you feel the same way I do… ‘you had me at sushi, John Dory’s’. The menu offers a great selection of sushi (with banting-friendly options), seafood and dishes for the meat lovers (which means my husband won’t complain when I’m in the mood for sushi). The kids menu is also great and the fact that Cara finished every last bite of her chicken strips and chips says a lot. The restaurant offers a lovely play area which Cara thoroughly enjoyed. There’s ample seating available next to the play area so parents can keep a close eye while their little ones are having a jol. This means a little time for mom and dad to relax and no whining or sulks from the kids. For a while at least! What else can I say? Friendly staff… check. Great decor… check. Awesome service… check. Disclaimer: These images all belong to John Dory’s Canal Walk as I was too busy having a good time enjoying my sushi and champers to really bother taking pics. I will not make a good food blogger. For more info on John Dory’s, visit their website HERE. We’ll be back soon for more. xoxo  ...

Making Memories with Sherra-Lyn Breebaart Photography and Kids Emporium

Mandy Lee Miller from www.mandyleemiller.com approached me a couple of months ago to work with Kids Emporium and how could I say no?! I adore Kids Emporium. Why? Well head on over to their Facebook Page HERE and you’ll see. In July Kids Emporium ran a “Making Memories” campaign where shoppers could get discount vouchers for local photographers and be entered into a draw to win a free photo shoot with that store’s related photographer. Kids Emporium is big on ‘supporting local’ so whilst giving back to their customers, they also wanted to support a photographer in each store’s area. Here’s where I come in. As part of the #MakingMemories campaign, I was teamed up with my local Kids Emporium’s chosen photographer, Sherra-Lyn Breebaart, to have a fabulous family photo shoot. Thanks so much Kids Emporium Durbanville! We had a blast and have amazing photos to boot. Making Memories with Sherra-Lyn Breebaart Photography and Kids Emporium Sherra-Lyn specialises in maternal, birth & family photography and she is so talented. Do yourself a favour and have a look at her birth stories on her Facebook Page HERE. AMAZING. I let Sherra-Lyn take the lead and she decided that Canettevallei Lavender Farm on Stellenboschkloof Road would be the perfect place for our shoot. She was right… Thank you again to Mandy and Kids Emporium Durbanville for the chance to work with Sherra-Lyn Breebaart Photography. Thank you Sherra-Lyn for these special images. They are exactly what I wanted and they will be treasured for ever. You captured the essence of our little girl’s personality and I couldn’t have asked for more. From our first contact via email to...
