Must love dogs! Doggie Day at the Stellenbosch Slow Market

Wagging tails and slobbery kisses will be the order of the day on Saturday when the Stellenbosch Slow Market celebrates man’s best friend. People are invited to bring their small to medium sized dogs with and make their canine family members the stars of the day in a parade, as well as show them off in competitions in order to be crowned as the most beautiful dog, the most energetic, and one with the most character. South Africa’s most famous celebrity dog, Bob (of popular SABC3 breakfast show Expresso) will add some star quality when he attends as a VIP on the day. Expresso will also be filming an insert of the celebrations, so the canine winners will be able to add “TV star” as one of their achieved doggie bucket list items. Hill’s Pet Nutrition, a leading pet food manufacturer, will be sponsoring a variety of prizes on the day ranging from bags of food, treats and other goodies. The parade will be taking place at 11h00 on the lawns of the Oude Libertas Estate in Stellenbosch where the Slow Market is located (the market is open from 09h00 to 14h00). All this, plus the usual culinary delights and surprises at the market will be on offer. There is no entry fee for the Stellenbosch Slow Market and parking is freely available. It sounds like a super fun day and well worth a visit. For more information, visit http://www.slowmarket.co.za, call +27 21 886 8514, or email admin@slowmarket.co.za. Also check out the Slow Market on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. xoxo...

Put a spring in your pet’s step with Hill’s j/d

I just hate the thought of my dogs getting older. It’s even hard just typing out the words. My girl is getting older… It is our job to ensure the health and well-being of our animals. And they may need a little more TLC as they get older (like we all do). Hill’s has a line designed for pets with arthritis and joint mobility problems. They sent Tequila a bag to try out, and I only have one ‘complaint’… I think it’s tastes too good. Ms Hoover likes it very much. Here are a couple of tips from Hill’s on how to put the ‘spring’ back in your pet’s step (and I think it is worth sharing): Dr Guy Fyvie, veterinary advisor for Hill’s Pet Nutrition, says it’s important to first seek a professional diagnosis. “The vet can prescribe pain relief or anti-inflammatory medication as necessary and also talk through nutrition and lifestyle changes that can help slow down the disease and improve quality of life.” Being overweight is a big no-no; “Excess weight puts additional strain on the joints and increases inflammation,” says Dr Fyvie. Maintaining optimum weight should be a priority for all arthritic pets. Correct nutrition can also make a huge difference. Eight out of ten South African owners said their pet was walking, running, playing and rising from rest more easily after being fed Hill’s Prescription Diet j/d. This food – for cats and dogs – has been clinically proven to reduce symptoms of arthritis in as little as 21 days. Speak to your vet for details. Moderate, low impact daily exercise is important – such...

A little Monday cuteness with Hill’s – Celebrating life’s adventures

Want to impress Dion Chang? Well, then you better get creative as it’s his ‘pet project’ to select the most creative entry as the winner of the Hill’s ‘Life’s Adventures’ photo competition which is now live on the Hill’s Facebook page. This competition was inspired by these two super cute images that were created for an international ad campaign. It’s your job to snap your pet having an imaginary adventure (which should be created using regular household items e.g. brooms, books, toys, pillows etc.).  There are great prizes up for grabs, so go check out their FB page now. Even if you don’t plan on entering, you can go and get a cuteness overload by checking out the entries that have been submitted so far. And just to add a little more sweetness to your day, here are our two fur babies. Is hulle nie oulik nie?! xoxo...
