Celebrate Christmas in Copper at the Stellenbosch Weekend Slow Market 27 – 29 Nov

It’s almost time for the annual Christmas Night & Day Slow Market weekend in Stellenbosch and this year an element of copper has been added to the celebration.

The use of copper for kitchen accessories such as pots, pans and jelly moulds reflects the original Cape style kitchen dating back to the 1600’s – the same period in which Stellenbosch was founded and named after Dutch settler, Simon van der Stel. What better way to celebrate Christmas than with our very own Cape heritage and the hearty, wholesome food for which Slow Market is renowned?

Surrounded by vineyards, oak trees and dangling copper décor, the Night Market, in addition to Saturday’s Christmas Day Market, promises to enchant your senses with over 100 specialty traders in local foods, wine, fashion and craft – the perfect opportunity to get all your Christmas shopping in the bag! There will be a wide selection of authentic items including fynbos topiaries, artisanal Christmas fruitcakes and handmade arts and crafts.

Expect copper pots and spoons dishing up Christmas favourites such as gammon rolls, turkey, mince pies, German Bratwurst, Christmas puddings and champagne. Heavenly voices from the SA Youth Choir singing live carols will float about in the air, complimented by the soothing smell of real Elgin Valley Christmas trees. In case all this isn’t enough of a gift, on Sunday 29 November, award-winning, multi-platinum SA artist, Kurt Darren will be playing at the Oude Libertas amphitheatre as part of the Oude Libertas summer concerts alongside the Slow Market Christmas fair.

Travel Bucket List: Akasha Mountain Retreat

Every now and then you discover a place that literally takes your breathe away. That is exactly what happened when I spotted pics of Akasha Mountain Retreat this morning. This is what I picture Heaven to look like.

‘Akasha Mountain Retreat offers picturesque Cape-Maroc style accommodation in a serene, private setting with spectacular panoramic views over the Langeberg & secluded Duiwenhoks Dam. Situated just 12km north of Heidelberg & the N2 – an ideal off-grid location in which to ‘disconnect from digital & reconnect with nature.’
