Experience pancakes like never before at the Stellenbosch Slow Market this Saturday

You better get your behind to the Stellenbosch Slow Market this weekend as pancakes will be celebrated like never before! This Saturday’s theme is Pancake and Lemon and they have loads of fun (and pancakes!) on the menu. Experience pancakes like never before at the Stellenbosch Slow Market this Saturday A Celebrity Pancake Bakeoff will be taking place at 12:00. Ewan Strydom (from Expresso), Vicky Davis (from Pasella) and her musician husband Schalk Joubert, and singer/actress Nedine Blom will be competing to find out who can bake the best pancake. All the funds raised will go to the winner’s charity of choice. I think that ‘Blink Stefaans’ will be the star of the day though… The Pancake Ladies of Ommihoek Pannekoek will be showcasing Blink Stefaans (as they affectionately call the pancake machine) from 10:00 to 14:00, selling pancakes in aid of charity at a mere R10 per pancake. This amazing machine can make up to 200 pancakes an hour and it was designed in the 1960’s. How cool is that?! To see Blink Stefaans in action, be sure to visit their Facebook page HERE. All the funds raised by the pancake sales will be pooled together for the pancake bake-off. The Stellenbosch Slow Market is reputed for bringing food straight from the producer to your table – ranging from cheese, just out of the oven-baked, meats, olives, free-range chickens, slow-roasted pork and the freshest veg straight from the farm, amongst so much more. Body Worlds Vital is heading to Cape Town

I am so excited that the BODY WORLDS Vital exhibition is on its way to Cape Town. I didn’t go the last time the exhibition was here and my friends could not stop talking about it. I am not missing it this time. BODY WORLDS is the most successful touring exhibition of all time and it has attracted more than 40 million visitors in over 100 cities worldwide. BODY WORLDS VITAL 2016 BODY WORLDS Vital is a new chapter in the BODY WORLDS series. The previous exhibition focussed on the ageing process, whilst Vital will be focusing how our lifestyle choices affect our health and vitality as well as the effects of certain major chronic diseases on the body. More than 180 anatomical specimens of real human bodies show us how sophisticated, yet fragile, our bodies really are. “Body Worlds (Vital) really brings every man face to jarring face with his own mortality: it shows us that, at cellular and molecular level, we are all a complex assemblage of bones, muscles, blood vessels, nerves and other tissue: a humbling thought,” says the Financial Mail’s Christina Kennedy.  Proudly presented by Discovery, this unique exhibition celebrates the wonder, resilience and fragility of the human body. The exhibition will be running from 9 August to 23 October 2016 at the Watershed at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. Book now at www.bodyworldsvital.co.za and get a detailed look at the human body’s keenly intelligent design, explore how it functions, and see what happens when disease strikes. Celebrate Christmas in Copper at the Stellenbosch Weekend Slow Market 27 – 29 Nov

It’s almost time for the annual Christmas Night & Day Slow Market weekend in Stellenbosch and this year an element of copper has been added to the celebration. The use of copper for kitchen accessories such as pots, pans and jelly moulds reflects the original Cape style kitchen dating back to the 1600’s – the same period in which Stellenbosch was founded and named after Dutch settler, Simon van der Stel. What better way to celebrate Christmas than with our very own Cape heritage and the hearty, wholesome food for which Slow Market is renowned? Surrounded by vineyards, oak trees and dangling copper décor, the Night Market, in addition to Saturday’s Christmas Day Market, promises to enchant your senses with over 100 specialty traders in local foods, wine, fashion and craft – the perfect opportunity to get all your Christmas shopping in the bag! There will be a wide selection of authentic items including fynbos topiaries, artisanal Christmas fruitcakes and handmade arts and crafts. Expect copper pots and spoons dishing up Christmas favourites such as gammon rolls, turkey, mince pies, German Bratwurst, Christmas puddings and champagne. Heavenly voices from the SA Youth Choir singing live carols will float about in the air, complimented by the soothing smell of real Elgin Valley Christmas trees. In case all this isn’t enough of a gift, on Sunday 29 November, award-winning, multi-platinum SA artist, Kurt Darren will be playing at the Oude Libertas amphitheatre as part of the Oude Libertas summer concerts alongside the Slow Market Christmas fair.  This coppery Christmas wonderland can be found under the oaks at Oude Libertas Estate in Stellenbosch....
